As a decades long user of BB/Hobbit/Xymon I'm excited to see the efforts to bring the development back to life.

I implemented Xymon at various customer sides with sometimes huge and complex environments (>10k servers), and never found an alternative regarding flexibility and user experience.

But during the last years it became difficult to convince the customers management to opt for Xymon as the project seems to be dead.

I would like to see a new version (even if it is a minor release) to show the progress of the project during these discussions.

My biggest request and pain point in every customer meeting is not ipv6, GUI or feauture list, but encrypted communication.

What I would like to see is a kind of suggestions and feature discussion area where I can provide some documentation, ideas or improvements I found over the years, ideally at a low level (wiki?). These mail threads or git are not always the ideal places to discuss this.

I also have several dozen of extension scripts I would like to share. Is xymonton still the place for this?

Unfortunately I cannot see the current Mail archive, nor can I sign in ("server arror"), nor register myself again ("Member already subscribed"). Any ideas?

So, thanks for the refreshed initiative, please keep the momentum, and glad to see Henrik back on board!

A substantial amount of work has already been done by the community in
many areas, but it has not been consolidated for some time. Improving
this consolidation appears to be an important topic. The GitHub platform
is now operational and usable as a central collaboration point, although
its governance and workflows are still at an early stage and will
naturally evolve over time.

One of the challenges currently observed is that Xymon no longer works
correctly on several platforms, notably Debian. Platform compatibility
is therefore a key concern and already involves a certain level of
complexity. Experienced C developers note that delivering a release
addressing these issues would represent a significant and concrete
improvement. Roland and Mark have been directly involved in this effort,
and greater collaboration around their work could be particularly helpful.

Mark has already created many issues, which provide useful entry points
for anyone interested. Release handling also appears to be an area where
further refinement could be beneficial.

Taking initiative can be intimidating; it should not be, even if I share
that feeling as well. The Xymon community is welcoming, and initiatives
taken with good intentions are appreciated. For example, ideas can be
shared using the mailing list or by configuring and using GitHub tools
and repositories, even if the setup is still evolving.
