hi all,
am trying to add network tests on my hobbit...such as smtp, cpu, memory, files, procs etc but am failing to find out how they are added...Anyone to help out? Thanks. Alyn
Alyn
You would add them to the BBHOSTS file. Example: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx host.foo.com # SMTP NTP.....
The other machine specific tests would be handled by installing the client on the box to monitor. If you are not receiving information from the client on the hobbit pages then check the Ghost Reports. You might have a incorrect host name.

Hi David, Thanks for that msg but i have tried adding like that but those tests are not shown on the hobbit application..or web pages. How about adding from the bb-services, do you think it would help?? Thanks. Alyn

Have you installed the hobbit client?
The client does the cpu, mem, etc tests

Alyn,
If your BBHOST file is setup as specified and you do not see those fields then there is a configuration problem somewhere. Are the columns for the tests at least visible for the host in question?

Have a look at what the test is reporting.

You install the client on the remote hosts, not the server
..plus some of these devices i wanted to monitor are like routers..so how do i install the client on a router??
You don't - you're limited to the remote tests.

just add
smtp
after the line for your bb-hosts and reload hobbit.
but cpu and memory are not network tests. for those you need to set up a hobbit client on the host you'd like to monitor.
Thanks. Alyn

What reason does hobbit give for it being red?

the smtp test basically check if the port 25 is available. run a tcpdump between hobbit client and smtp server to check if the server is not protected behind firewall, etc.
Thanks, Alyn
Hi Alyn,
I can't help notice, but the subject of your email has nothing to do with content of your email
