How to setup SMS service?
I used to use QPAGE as well, but ATT Wireless took away that function. They like to charge for BOTH sending AND receiving text messages, so I have a pair of serial port GSM modems to send text messages.
Please forgive typos - sent from a mobile device

What?!? “qpage” not complicated enough? Sheesh! It is easy-cheesy if your providers will give you their “TAP” phone number. I’ve never had a problem with getting that info…just a few phone calls. And all you need is a regular modem.

I've heard of people doing that using gnokii to talk over serial port to an old Nokia phone.
Yep, did try that here at home. But our datacenter guys didn't like the idea of a cell phone lying around in the bottom of my server rack.
I have the opposite problem - we're not allowed to plug in USB sticks, but I might get away with a phone on a serial port. :-)
