Status re. renaming and my health-issue
To start with the eye-problems I've had, I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday (Aug. 27). It's a relatively simple operation - I'll be out of the hospital the same day - but I cannot use my eyes normally for a few weeks after the operation. Meaning that I am not allowed to read, work with a computer, or drive a car for 2-4 weeks.
So I'll be completely off-line during that period. Sorry, but that's the way it is.
Now to the grand renaming debate. The last time I mentioned that I had another candidate, but I was waiting to see if the domain names were going to expire. Alas, they did not. The name I had in mind was "Sysdar", being short for "Systems Radar" - but phonetically also rather neat, since it brings in memories of "Big Sister" and hence "Big Brother". It didn't quite work out. That doesn't mean I'll scratch that idea completely - it's still a good name, and there are no trademark registrations or anything else indicating that the name is used at all, so we could just work it out with a different domain name (e.g. sysdar.eu or sysdar.dk).
My favourite right now is G-lance. I've noted that HP has the "GlancePlus" software, but I hope that won't be a problem due to the explicit dash and therefore the very different pronounciation.
"hobbitmon" and "hobbeat" are outsiders. I'd have to get an OK for those from the Tolkien lawyers, and I am a bit sceptical about them accepting either. Also, I think they are OK names for people who know what Hobbit is about - but they have no meaning what so ever to new users (or PHB's).
Nothing's going to change (obviously) for the next few weeks, so feel free to voice opinions and/or come up with good ideas until then.
Regards, Henrik
Good luck at the hospital. We'll all anticipate your return!

Henrik,
First some Hobbit trivia. We have a local specialized restaurant here in Orange, California named "The Hobbit". The place has been there forever. I've driven by there daily for more years than I care to admit. Which brings me to my point; None of us are getting any younger, health should come first. Get some needed rest and time away from computers and such. Forget the name debate, it is soo small on the scale of things.

Henrik,
I wish you all the best for the comming weeks. Enjoy life without a computer.

How about "OrcMon"

- Plus it's related to hobbit but not explicitly :-)

Hi
We have a server, which is defined in hobbit under a server group.
However, this same server is also defined under 2 application groups, because these 2 applications have components that run on the server.
bb-hosts would look something like this page win Windows Servers group Application Servers 0.0.0.0 server1 # prefer page apps Applications subpage apps_appx ApplicationX 0.0.0.0 server1 # subpage apps_appy ApplicationY 0.0.0.0 server1 #
Now on server1, we have procs for ApplicationX and ApplicationY However, if a component of ApplicationX dies, I don't want the procs tab under ApplicationY to go red.
So in hobbit-config.cfg I tried this HOST=server1 PAGE=%*apps_appx* PROC appx.exe 1 -1 red
HOST=server1 PAGE=%*apps_appy* PROC appy.exe 1 -1 red
Either, what I am trying to do is not supported, or I am not getting my PAGE= syntax right. I have tried a few variation of this, but still no joy.
Has anybody managed to get this to work?
Thanks Vernon

Hi all
We are monitoring files, and have it all correct in the client-local.cfg Everything works OK, when we have the following in hobbit-clients.cfg
FILE /etc/myfile.conf owner=root group=root
Change owner or group, and the test goes red.
Now we add this FILE /etc/myfile.conf owner=root group=root mode=600
And in the clientdata.log file, we get
2008-09-08 12:50:38 Unknown token 'mode=0600' ignored at line 659
Now here's the interesting part. According to the docs, owner and group should be defined as OWNERID= and GROUPID= If we use OWNERID and GROUPID, we get red, and these errors File is owned by user root - should be d=root File is owned by group root - should be d=root
We have also tried MODE=600, MODE=0600 and mode=0600 2008-09-08 12:50:38 Unknown token 'mode=0600' ignored at line 695
Any mode changes to the file do not trigger an alert.
In desperation I tried MODE="600" and mode="600" And all I got was this in clientdata.log 2008-09-08 13:10:38 Unknown token 'mode="600' ignored at line 695 2008-09-08 13:10:38 Unknown token 'MODE="600' ignored at line 795 Interesting to note, the closing " was not displayed.
Is this a bug, or have I missed something?
Cheers Vernon
