Dunno about the rest of it, but you get purple dots when a report has not been updated in a certain amount of time - usually 30 minutes. At least some of the purple dots will be due to stopping the clients, which stops them reporting.

I know that with clients stopped I will get purple status for the services, but I am worried that Hobbit server itself is showing purple status in some of its services..
