Hobbit Email Alert Subject
Hi,
I hope I havent missed this somewhere on the forum and that someone can help.
I have hobbit 4.2.0 running on Fedora Core 6 and Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, monitoring around 400 Servers in our Production and Corporate environments. I setup a number of different groups in hobbit-alerts.cfg and am sending out alerts based on the department responsible and priority.
The problem or issue some of the departments / admins have is when they receive alert emails on there blackberries. The email subject is truncated according to the blackberry screen size or font size. They have asked me if it is possible to format the message subject so that they can respond more efficiently without having to scroll through the entire email.
As and example:
Current alert email subject: Hobbit [604196] SERVER:disk CRITICAL (RED)
What I would like the subject to be: SERVER:disk CRITICAL (RED) Hobbit [604196]
This may seem a trivial or unimportant, but depending on the event we could receive up to 100 alerts messages from the fallout. It would be handy to scroll through the emails checking the subject without having to open them.
Thanks for any help you can provide on this.
Regards, Ryan

Have you tried
Hi,
I havent tried adding the WMLPATCH. Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the wmlpatch relate to the web pages itself. I.E being able to view the status web pages on your mobile? My monitoring site is not publicly accessible and I believe that that would probably take more time than viewing an email subject.
All I would like to do it change the alert email subject to include the server:service first before the hobbit alert id.
Thanks again for the help.

Check out the alert scripts on xymonton. You could probably model something after the SMS alert script.

Hi all
I have two user groups, one of them (the main) are making sure that sistem is doing it's job, and they have to be informed if the real problem appears and dont care about other parameters which describes state of server (CPU, disk, and other). Other group is admins and they do need information about the state of server. I have created alternate pageset every thing is fine for them. But the problem is that the colums that are not shown normaly for first group, are shown in bb2 page then then state changes.
Is there any possibility not to show all events sent from clients on bb2 page?
Thanks Ricardas
You can use the bbnk page instead of the bb2 page.
Thanks, Larry Barber

Hi Larry and Joost
Thanks for response. Joost - tag nobb2 is used for not showing wole host, but what I want to do is just not to show some columns. I have red article "building alternate pagesets" and I have successfuly made one :) Larry - using bbnk page insted of bb2 is a good decision, despite it does not give full functionaliti of bb2 but it is good enough for me.
Thanks folks Ricardas

The 'nobb2' tag prevents sending alerts for a host to the bb2 page. See also the section 'BUILDING ALTERNATE PAGESETS' in the bbgen manpage for a manual on how to build alternate views.

All I would like to do it change the alert email subject to include the server:service first before the hobbit alert id.
Use the SCRIPT alert method, you can write your own wrapper script that modifies the alerts to the format that you desire.

Thanks Joost and Galen. I will check this out and post my resolution (If I get it right)

Ryan,
I've been following this post with some interest. I'd be interested in following your progress as I would like to implement a solution similar to what you are looking for.
Respectfully,
