hobbit, file and bbwin question
Is anyone in the hobbit world using BBWin in central mode to monitor the status of a file on the Window side and reporting back to a UNIX hobbit server? If so I could really use your help.
MYSETUP
CLIENT Hostname: mailrelay.math.purdue.edu OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition Service Pack 2 (build 3790) BBWin: BBWin V.12
SERVER Hostname: zorn.math.purdue.edu OS: SunOS zorn.math.purdue.edu 5.10 Generic_120011-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
On the server I have the following two files
client-local.cfg
[mailrelay.math.purdue.edu]
file:c:\testbbwin
hobbit-clients.cfg
HOST=mailrelay.math.purdue.edu
UP 30m
LOAD 40.0 70.0
DISK * 90 95
FILE c:\testbbwin red MTIME<600
On the BBwin client my clientlocal.cfg file has
file:c:\testbbwin
file:c:\testbbwin does not seem to add any information in the msg.mailrelay file.
QUESTIONS:
I do get any information in the msg.mailrelay file about the file:c:\testbbwin. Is the code built in BBWin to capture the file: information to add to the msg.mailrelay file or is this something that I have to write?
Can you provide your files so I can see an example.
I really need to monitor a file on the Window side and this would be a great help.
I also I am not a window type guy. We run as few window machines as possible and only where necessary.
Thanks
Robert

Robert,
I too have never been able to get this to work. The BBWin 0.11 release notes say it is supposed to, but I've had no luck. My clientlocal.cfg and hobbit-client.cfg look similar to yours. I've tried slashes, doublebackslashes, quotes, etc but it always shows up as "no files monitored".
It sounds like you are one step ahead of me since your clientlocal.cfg is actually being downloaded. Mine is 1 byte on the client.
If anyone has this working, would you mind posting client-local.cfg and hobbit-client.cfg snips?

There were some issues with bbwin .11 in this respect. BBWin .12 is currently available and I believe there were some patches applied to make this work...Etienne can speak to that better than I.

After thinking about this I also had the same problem where the clientlocal.cfg had nothing in the file.
The problem was the order of the entries in the client-local.cfg file.
I had put my hostname specific entry after the OS [win32] entry and that did not work. [win32] is blank and so the blank clientlocal.cfg file
mailrelay.math.purdue.edu is my Win host and so now I have
[mailrelay.math.purdue.edu]
file:c:\testbbwin
before
[win32]
From the client-local.cfg on the server it say:
# The client-local.cfg file contains configuration for
# the Hobbit clients running on monitored systems. When
# clients contact the Hobbit server, they get the section
# from this file which matches their hostname or operating
# system
The key word is "or" in the forth line "hostname or operating". I believe what it matches first is what will get used and searching stops or at least that is what I saw.
Hope this helps
Robert

Aaron,
Thanks for you input.
Have installed BBWin V.12 and it behaves the same way.
I have sent this in to the BBwin mail list but had not hear back and so I want to ask others their experience.
I just did not want to be fighting windmills.
Thanks again
