Critical systems view editing
Quick, and I hope, simple question. In Hobbit 4.2.0 I am just learning about setting up the critical systems view. It appears that you can't have more than one test defined for a given host or have a host cloned from more than one master record. Is that true? The documentation only talks about having one test in the test field and my testing indicates that that is also true. So, if I have two critical services on one host or set of hosts (e.g. smbd and httpd) how would I get those into the critical systems page? Thanks, Steve Holmes Purdue University
I am *guessing* that you need to enter a record for each combination of host and test, so if you want to track three tests as "critical" you will need three records.
I never did understand the "master record" concept well enough to get it to work so I ended up using a bigger hammer when entering data. Fortunately I did not need to enter very much.

Thanks Greg. Yes I found this on the list from nearly a year ago. Looks like I have a lot of data entry ahead of me if I want to use this feature. http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2008/10/msg00349.html

I agree the critical systems editor could do with a better implementation. Ideas are welcome.

Henrik, the only thing I would be looking for currently is to be able to create a template for a group of hosts (say all web servers) coupled with a service (e.g. http) plus a template for another group (say samba servers) coupled with a service (e.g. smbd) and then be able to clone a host from BOTH of those templates (i.e. I have web servers which are also samba servers and of course they are all critical). So, it seems to me that if the logic of the editor and the processor were to treat hostname+test as the key to the file and (here's the tricky part) the key to link to when cloned, it would work. At least for me. I guess the cloned record would have to include the test, too as part of the key.
I think the file would have something like
Web Servers|http|1|....|sjh... Samba Servers|smbd|1|...sjh... bigserver|http|=Web Servers-http bigserver|smbd|=Samba Servers-smbd
or something like that. The logic would have to make the translation from the link (=) to the key (e.g. Web Servers|http).
Is this making any sense?
Thanks, Steve.
