Hello group,
Craig Cook pointed me to this product. After a 8 year absence from admin/monitoring (last was bb1.8c) I am back. I was working on setting up bb and noticed nothing new at dead cat.
So here I am missed the hobbit/bbmon generation. I have 200 plus Cisco 7609's I monitor and wanted to see some of the mrtg setups folks might be using. I had bbmrtg setup but never really was happy with it. So before I dive into setting it up I wanted to look at some options and samples.
Today I am going to see if I can port over the bb-ospf.pl script. So far I really like the xymon product, it is like my old friend BB yet has the changes I always wanted to get to!

Be sure to check out xymonton.trantor.org (hope to rename it to xymonton.org this week). It doesn't have as many monitors as deadcat but since you can easily convert BB scripts to Xymon (even use them natively in some cases), it's not the obstacle it may appear to be.

I don't use mrtg, I prefer devmon, as it integrates with Xymon without any effort.

You could replace this with a devmon template/test.
(We don't run OSPF or BGP, so I haven't been able to implement myself).

I have Devmon running and I am still getting my head wrapped around the logic. I am working on an OSPF test now. I am a bit rusty and I have not spent much time in SNMP tool building. So I am having a blast learning and rubbing off the admin/scripting skills. When I started this project I pulled out all my old code and custom tools for BB and looked at them and commented, "I wrote this stuff?, What the heck does this do?"
Thanks for the comments.

You don't need to build an SNMP tool.

You don't need to script either.
Please see docs/TEMPLATES in the source distribution of devmon.
