Dear Xymon Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to inquire about Xymon, your monitoring tool, and its capabilities. Our organization is currently evaluating various monitoring solutions to enhance our infrastructure's performance and reliability, and we are keen to understand how Xymon can fit into our environment.
Specifically, I would appreciate detailed information on the following aspects:
Features and Capabilities:
What are the core features of Xymon? Does Xymon support real-time monitoring and alerting for both hardware and software components? How does Xymon handle scalability and performance in large environments? Integration and Compatibility:
What types of systems and applications can Xymon monitor? Can Xymon integrate with other tools and systems, such as Always On windows failover cluster.
Installation and Configuration:
Could you provide an overview of the installation process for Xymon? Are there specific prerequisites or configurations needed for optimal performance?
User Interface and Reporting:
What kind of user interface does Xymon offer, and how customizable is it? Does Xymon provide comprehensive reporting and data visualization options? Support and Documentation:
What types of support are available for Xymon users (e.g., documentation, community support, professional support)? Are there any training resources or user manuals available?
Licensing and Costs:
Could you provide details on the licensing model and associated costs for Xymon? We are particularly interested in how Xymon can help us achieve improved monitoring and proactive management of our IT infrastructure. A demonstration or trial version of the tool would also be highly beneficial to us.
Please let us know a convenient time for a call or a demo session. Your assistance in providing this information will be invaluable to our decision-making process.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen Joel Yuh

Hi Joel
Firstly, it's important to recognise that there is no support team for Xymon. The subscribers to this mailing list are Xymon users, some of whom also volunteer to provide advice to, and help solve problems of, other list subscribers. If you are looking for a product that has paid support with service guarantees, then Xymon might not be suitable.
Having said that, there are many happy Xymon users because it fills a need for us, despite there being no official support channels. The source code is open, the documentation is very good, and the mailing list has many experienced and helpful Xymon users, so most people can work out problems they have without too much effort. One key benefit (for me) is how extensible Xymon is. Xymon provides a solid framework on which system owners are able to build their own scripts to make Xymon do things that are unique and specific to the application or service being monitored.
There already exists a lot of good documentation that will answer many of your questions, and I recommend you start here on the demo website: https://www.xymon.com/.
In particular:
- The "demo" website shows the user interface as well as the configuration files used to run the site. From the "Help" menu there are other pages that provide useful information. Most of the resources listed below are accessible from this menu.
- The "About Xymon" describes what Xymon can do, how it works, Xymon's history, and where to get support (ie, here): https://www.xymon.com/about.html
- Installing Xymon: https://xymon.com/help/install.html. There is a server component and a client component. You have the choice of compiling and installing from source code, or installing from a package (see https://terabithia.org/rpms/xymon/ and review the README file)
- Configuring Xymon: https://xymon.com/help/xymon-config.html. This is a guide to get you started, and for many people, it's more than enough.
However, there are many ways to extend Xymon that aren't covered here. Many people have written extension scripts that work with Xymon to perform new tasks and monitor new services. The "Xymonton" website provides a source for Xymon add-on written by members of the community. See https://wiki.xymonton.org/doku.php/about
If you think Xymon might be a viable candidate for you, please review the resources provided above, which I believe should answer most of your questions. Of course, feel free to ask more questions here.
Cheers Jeremy
