I am in the process of upgrading my hobbit servers to xymon. I started with a new (replacement) network test server, since I thought that'd be simplest to update invisibly to my users. I'm running Xymon 4.3.5 on NetBSD 5.1.

/usr/pkg/libexec/xymon/xymongrep bgp

2011-10-20 10:40:41 Cannot load /usr/pkg/libexec/xymon/server/etc/hosts.cfg, or file is empty

And my DISPLAY server says (as I'm not allowing the new server to talk to it yet): Latest errormessages: Refused message from 129.186.6.39: config hosts.cfg

Running ktrace on xymongrep, it isn't ever looking at the local file or even trying to, it's only ever trying to fetch it from the DISPLAY.

/usr/pkg/libexec/xymon/xymongrep --hosts=/usr/pkg/etc/xymon/hosts.cfg bgp

I've set HOSTSCFG, I've made sure hosts.cfg is in /usr/pkg/etc/xymon/hosts.cfg and /usr/pkg/libexec/xymon/server/etc/hosts.cfg is a link to that. The xymon user has access/ownership all the way along both paths.

What did I miss in my configuration?
