The hosts file from Big Brother had the keyword "ora" for testing the oracle port. Xymon just missed an oracle server failing that test in Big Brother. We just copied the hosts.cfg file from one to the other, for the most part. So the oracle servers still have the key word "ora" in them. Reading the man pages it shows an oracle ping test as "oratns". Is this the same test as "ora" in BB? The alert had cleared in BB by the time I found this, so I can't test it. Do I need to change all of the "ora" keywords to "oratns"?

~/server/etc/protocols.cfg shows the following definition:
From http://www.mail-archive.com/whatsup_forum at list.ipswitch.com/msg06678.html
[oratns] send "\x00\x57\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x01\x36\x01\x2C\x00\x00\x08\x00\x7F\xFF\xA3\x0A\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x1D\x00\x3A\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x02\x08\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00(CONNECT_DATA=(COMMAND=ping))" options banner port 1521
So I suspect you have two choices. Establish "ora" as an alias for "oratns" in protocols.cfg, or change the "ora" tags in hosts.cfg to be "oratns".
Since it is unlikely you will need to use your hosts.cfg in BB again, I think a global search/replace for ora/oratns in that file is the best way to go.
If you are wedded to the 'ora' name, you can make it an alias to 'oratns' by editing protocols.cfg [oratns] => [oratns|ora]
