Hi all,
I have 2 machines (hobbit clients installed), that are testing for bbd, which reports:
Service bbd on solaris10 is not OK : Service unavailable (Connection refused)
I don't need that test, so I tried to remove those tests with:
./bb 127.0.0.1 " drop solaris10 bbd"
And the tests are still there on the web page.
Anyone know how to remove those tests?
Thanks!!
William

Is bbd still present in bb-hosts? Did you restart Hobbit services? If this doesn't work, put a # to comment out the server in bb-hosts after removing bbd from bb-hosts, restart services, un-comment the server in bb-hosts, restart services again.

Hi Michael, Thanks for the help! There was originally a bbd in bb-hosts, but that was removed, before I did the command "./bb"
I then followed your advice, and yep it worked like a charm! Thanks!

Hi all,
One last question here... I'm trying to structure my page, so that I have 3 areas to test for: Servers, services & routers/switches/firewall I'd like to have all the servers listed under the page "servers", with all the basic xymon client tests.
I'd like to have all the services under another page "services", with apache, ftp, mysql, etc.
What I came to realize, is that I get an error, because there are 2 host entries in the bb-hosts file. On top of that, I'd only like to show just that test for that server, such as "apache", without showing all the other standard client tests such as "cpu, disk, files"
I looked at the demo site, and I have a bb-hosts file for: "172.16.10.2 www.hswn.dk" And setup a client like that, but it comes up with all the standard client tests.
Can someone point me to documentation that shows how to set up the tests this way? examples?
Thanks!
William

Take a look at the bb-hosts man page - the thing you want is probably "group-only", as in:
group-only conn|cpu|disk|files a.b.c.d server.domain.com
group-only apache 0.0.0.0 server.domain.com # noconn
Group names are optional. If given, they show at the top of the hostname column.

Hi Ralph,
From what you suggest, it would create tables for those specific tests, on that 1 page only. BUT, from what I see, you still can¹t have duplicate host entries in the bb-hosts file. I¹ll put in my bb-hosts file with the example of what I¹m trying to create.
The error I get is for the ³amtco server²

You should be able to put multiple entries of a server in bb-hosts, what is your error message. Also you have a type error "page serices Services" .

List all the tags for the host in the first line that it appears in bb-hosts, filter with group-only and group-except and then use noconn tag only on any other line that you specify the hosts.

There's no reason not to spread those different "group-only" blocks over several pages. I have exactly that on a Xymon server watching some F5 BigIP groups. A bunch of the hostnames occur in different pools, so those are duplicated in different sub-pages. Ralph Mitchell

Hi all, sorry for not responding sooner, I was away. Thanks Michael and Ralph for trying to help me.
I tried the suggestion: group-only, but I get the same error: bb-network.log: 2009-04-27 11:33:48 Host fileserver appears twice in bb-hosts! This may cause strange results
Here¹s my bb-hosts file:
page servers Servers group-compress <H3><I>Windows:</I></H3> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver #
page services Services group-compress <H3><I>Services:</I></H3> group-only http|ftp <font size="+1">http Ftp</font> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # noconn http://fileserver/ ftp
does anyone know why?
thanks!

Here’s my bb-hosts file:

The "noconn" tag is at the wrong place. Try:
page servers Servers group-compress <H3><I>Windows:</I></H3> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # noconn
page services Services group-compress <H3><I>Services:</I></H3> group-only http|ftp <font size="+1">http Ftp</font> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # http://fileserver/ ftp

Hi Dominique,
That actually worked! I got no errors in bb-network.log, and BOTH the http and the ftp services in the services page monitored properly, BUT, there was a side affect.
The page called "servers" where the fileserver shows all the client data, etc, ALSO showed the FTP and HTTP column, which is something I didn't want to see: I want that under the services page.
conn cpu disk ftp http info memory
msgs netstat procs svcs trends uptime who
Thanks for your help!

Hi Dominque, I tried something else, and now things are ok. For: page servers Servers group-compress <H3><I>Windows:</I></H3> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # noconn
I changed it from group-compress to group-except:
page servers Servers group-except http|ftp <H3><I>Windows:</I></H3> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # noconn
And that seemed to work!!!
Thanks so much for your suggestion..

Hi William,
You need the key word 'prefer' in one of the entries.
page servers Servers group-compress <H3><I>Windows:</I></H3> xx.xx.xx.xx fileserver # prefer

-----Original Message----- From: William Ottley [mailto:wottley at cmicanada.com] Sent: Monday, April 27, 2009 2:24 PM To: hobbit at hswn.dk Subject: [hobbit] Same host 2x in bb-hosts file: 1 for "servers" 1 for services.. How?
Hi all,
One last question here...
Can someone point me to documentation that shows how to set up the tests this way? examples?
Thanks!
William

Have you tried using the PREFER parameter..
in bb-hosts add prefer to only check CONN on that line.
