I did some code changes to fix a problem with xymon 4.3.0.0.beta2. If I want to test it, is it safe to just reinstall over the current xymon server? Will it keep all settings, and just install the binaries? Is there an option doing that? Also good to do that if I want to revert back to original.

Usually, yes - but I don't do it just for testing code fixes.
I would recommend making a backup of your ~xymon/server/bin/ directory, then copy whatever binaries you've changed by hand.
And if you fix some generic problem, please share your fixes with us.
