Architecture also matters - just thought I'd point that out. Some people include that in "the OS" but I thought I'd bring it up =)

It depends on the O/S you are going to be running on the hp9000 system. For the most part the chip of the computer makes no difference, it's the O/S on that chip.

Very cool!
If I understand this properly, I can run agents on any kind of pc/mainframe/mini-computer/etc. that will report to the main hobbit server.
Where can I find these client pieces for HP Risc based systems (HP9000, I think it is, specifically)?
Naturally, I configure a simple file on this server (something.cfg I presume), to setup what processes and things are monitored, right?
I'm going to monitor some windows processes to get my feet wet, and then try it on a HP Risc.

Hobbit on 4.2.0 to 4.2.0 isn't going to change configuration.
From FC5 to FC8 I really wouldn't expect there to be any changes to the system structure that would complicate Hobbit necessary for any changes, either.

Yeah!! Nice!
I just got the 4.2.0 working on fedora 8 (yeah, I reloaded over fedora 5, from the other day)..rpm's make it really easy to update things like this.
What sort of impact will upgrading have on my existing .cfg files??

I think TJ Yang already has a list of companies using hobbit in his wiki...which I don't recall where it lives at the moment.

If you do use Hobbit I ask that you help populate this Wiki article:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/The_hobbit_Users_list
Let's see how many hobbit users there are behind those URL hiding email addresses asking for help here!

Hi Bruce (and everyone else),
don't worry, no offence at all.
In some ways I think it is quite flattering that people keep asking when the next release will happen - it means that you are actually using Hobbit, and are interested to see some of the new stuff that has been discussed here.
And I'm the first to admit that it has taken much longer than originally planned.
It is being worked on. Sometimes life interferes for a while and slows everything down. But we're getting closer.

Josh,
Sorry, I was under the impression this forum was for asking question about hobbit and that was my question. I have posted the question exactly twice. He never responded to the first and thought maybe he didn't see it. My question was posted months after the topic first arose here with lots of
people asking the same question. In fact, if you check there is a long thread on this topic which also contains people posting additions they want to see in the new release. I'm sorry I offended
Henrik - If you have felt badgered, my sincere apology. I have the greatest respect for you and want you have accomplished. Hobbit has been a remarkable and invaluable tool.

Honestly I believe asking when the release of 4.3 is going to be is bothering all of the regulars. The question does nothing but this and more then likely delay the release date. Let Henrik do what he does well and be patient please.
