that's odd. I'd like to dig into this a bit more.
Could you try and apply the patch at http://www.hswn.dk/~henrik/hobbitping-debug.patch to your Hobbit sources, and then run the new hobbitping with the --debug flag ?
It won't change the behaviour, but it will print out some info about the packets being sent and received.
