OK I have an update with this problem, it seems that bbproxy - or something, is crashing :S I have a number of cores but no backtrace when using gdb. I tried recompiling hobbit from source but have run into a problem while running make install (make and make clean work fine):

any ideas? (Have re-downloaded source, applied patch and install and also coped source from one server to the other with the same results)
Thanks, Jason.

Ideally yes, since we don't want to be dependent on the main server for monitoring our own site, the BBSERVERIP=137.202.205.54 (the proxies IP address).
Thanks, Jason.

This is everything from hobbitlaunch.cfg on the proxy (minus comments)
So, you pretty much have everything enabled.
[...]
[bbdisplay] ENVFILE /usr/local/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg GROUP generators CMD bbgen $BBGENOPTS --report --nopropyellow=msgs,uptime LOGFILE $BBSERVERLOGS/bb-display.log INTERVAL 1m
Depending on the values in hobbitserver.cfg (I think BBSERVERIP but I haven't confirmed), this may be generating the traffic.
Do you really need the html pages to be available on this "proxy" server?

Hi All,
I got the proxy set-up between our site here and in Newbury but at
4:30
last night I got a call saying we were using a high level of
bandwidth,
the network team investigated and found hobbit to be using 50% of
our
2mb connection, is this normal? How can I run tests etc. to see how
the
proxy is working and are there any settings I might alter to make it
use
less bandwidth?
Please explain how you have set up your proxy.
For instance, in your scenario, I would expect that the *only* things running (not marked as DISABLED in hobbitlaunch.cfg) on your "proxy" are the bbproxy and bbnet tasks.
