Hello Hilton,
2007/4/17, Quark IT - Hilton Travis <Hilton at quarkit.com.au>:
Hi All,
Here's a thought for the Centralization server and laptops...
If a laptop is on a LAN (directly or via VPN) then it will successfully report to the BBWin client running in Centralization mode, however if it is remote (home, on the road, whatever) then it will be unable to see the Centralization server, so it will not have its status reported to Hobbit. This is an issue.
Sure, this *could* be addresses by the laptop sending data to both the Centralization server and the Hobbit server, but this negates the benefits of the Centralization server - lowering Internet bandwidth.
What would be better is to be able to configure the BBWin client on the laptop to be able to connect directly to the Hobbit server ONLY if the connection to the Centralization server fails.
Thoughts?
I'm not sure to understand. Did you turn on centralized mode on BBWin ?
No, I'm thinking this through before trying to implement it.
There is no backend in hobbit for the moment, I'm surprised that you can use this mode.
What do you mean by this? Does Centralization mode not work at all? Does it work on the BBWin side, but there's no support for it in Hobbit, or what?
Could you post your bbwin.cfg file so I can understand better the problem ?
Not really, purely because I'm wanting to see if this works before I waste time trying something that's not gonna have a chance at working.
What does "Centralization" mode in BBWin actually achieve right now, and what are the plans for its future?
