Service conn on www.netbsd.org is not OK : Host does not respond to ping

BBSERVERHOSTNAME and BBSERVERIP are correctly set (!=127.0.0.1) and I **can** ping any machines (in my LAN or on the Internet)
Can anyone tell me why conn would fail when ping works on command line ?
TIA, Jo
