Hi CJ,
You sent your mail to the Hobbit mailing list, but it seems you haven't (yet) subscribed to the list - so I've bcc'ed you on this reply.
I'm sorry to hear that someone decided on using Hobbit without listening to the people who actually will be using the monitoring system. That's a bad start for any type of software deployment.
However, since the decision has been made, I suggest that we try to make the best of it. As the main Hobbit developer, I could certainly use some input from people like You who have lots of experience with other systems - there are always things that can be improved. And I must admit that I haven't had the patience to really work with Nagios, so that is a "competitor" I do not have a lot of knowledge about. So there is definitely some things I could learn from Your experience.
Questions, suggestions for improvements and just general cries for help are always welcome at hobbit at hswn.dk - I'd recommend that You subscribe to the list if you want to be sure to see the responses.
Regards, Henrik

Hi
Im am a sysadmin fo a ISP tipe environment. We have been using Nagios as our monitoring tool. I do admit that I like Nagios and prefer Nagios over using the Hobbit. Unfortuanately some people with too much say in our organisation decided to use Hobbit. These people are big hobbit fans and I even found them on mailing lists trying to convince Nagios users to switch to hobbit. Since one of my main functions is maintaining the monitoring environment, this decision was a bit of a let down.
Hobbit is easier to configure, I give you that. We are running Nagios and Hobbit side by side and obviously when new servers are build nagios is left out and the kickstarts are built to install hobbit. But I could do some comparisons and I started collecting data that makes hobbit look not so reliable as Nagios. Nagios also has some functionality that I could not find in hobbit.
I have never been on any hobbit mailing list. Since the decision was made, and that is now the road we are going. I would like to see some changes/additions, or make some suggestions to the hobbit. Where can I send my suggestions to?
I am currently a bit anti hobbit, for good reason, but that could change, I hope.
