If the processess PROC is running, it sets the variabele MACHINEDOTS to TEST1 and it runs the script hobbitclient.sh. So you will get extra data on the hobbit server coming in from (fake) server TEST1. If you add a line to bb-hosts with TEST1, you can monitor whatever you want for server TEST1.
The problem with this is, if PROC P dies on HOST A and appears on HOST B after hobbit client starts on both hosts, the MACHINEDOTS will not be to pick up the change and will still have the name.
