[Xymon] is safe increase msg size?

Oversize status msg from 10.XXX.YYY.ZZZ for myserver:msgs truncated (n=389600, limit=262144). Mostly from windows machines... so I wonder what can be the impact (performance/security/???) of increase the msgs size to 512KB while I'm talking with BBWin people to make adjustments?

You shouldn't have any problems with increasing the MAXMSG_STATUS and MAXMSG_CLIENT settings.
