Just thought I'd let you know, I did gmake clean and then it worked

In that case I'd just consider this an odd fluke and remove that command from the hobbitd/Makefile file (it's around line 154 of that file).

Could it be your PATH setting when running make that picks up a different "ln" utility ? Would be most odd but it's the only explanation I can think of.
