Hi I cannot find how to configure that monitors im using hobbit , and the status of this monitors is clear. but if you click on them They show information , for example clicking in procs it shows all the process. but msg dont show anything but the message "

The client did not report any logfile data "
the same with files .
Some idea???? regards!!!
You need to make configuration in /hobbit/server/etc/hobbit-client.cfg and /hobbit/server/etc/client-local.cfg

If my memory serves me correctly, which is highly doubtful, I had a similar problem with defunct processes on an earlier version of AIX that was corrected by an AIX patch. The issue wasn't due to Hobbit, but the symptoms were the same.
Perhaps you should check to see if you have all the latest AIX patches installed.
Just a wild guess!

Ummmm.... it might be. I have AIX version 5300-07-01-0748 running on two servers... one blade and one p6... the p6 is the only one generating the defunct procs...

I think that might be an artifact from AIX. Hobbit launches processes every 5 minutes that end. AIX keeps them around in the process list as "defunct" instead of just getting rid of them.

Ginny JaworskiThat is what I thought was happening, however, I have Hobbit running on a few other AIX servers. This just started happening on this server in the last few days. Before that, things seemed okay. The other AIX servers don't seem to keep the defunct processes around. Any idea why it does it on some servers and not others? I rebooted the server yesterday afternoon to clear them up. I have 215 defunct processes this morning. Are there any configurations in Hobbit that I can stop it from reporting the defunct procs on the Hobbit Server?

I'm using Stef's hobbit/xymon client downloaded from http://www.docum.org/foswiki/bin/view/Xymon/Aix5HobbitClient . Does anyone find proper patch we have to apply?

Is this a standard client? Is it running any external tests?
It was compiled on AIX 5.1 I think!
I have a client compiled on AIX 5.3-06-04 which you could try and see if problem is still there.

I solved my problem by calling IBM and they had me download and install the latest fixpack for AIX 5.3 T/L 7... this brought me up to Service Pack 7 (5300-07-07-0846). I rebooted the server after applying the updates and the defunct processes are no longer generated. Hope this helps.

it is important that you write the rules in revers order: individual rules first, global rules last in the config file.

Hi I cannot find how to configure that monitors im using hobbit , and the status of this monitors is clear. but if you click on them They show information , for example clicking in procs it shows all the process. but msg dont show anything but the message "

The client did not report any logfile data "
the same with files .

seems to be something with the hobbit client 4.2. could it be? i need to configure some more ? in my older clients it works . but in all my hobbit 4.2 clients doesn´t work. on this 4.2 clients i´m running some ext scripts and it works correctly , so there´s nothing to do with ghosts clients. by the other hand ports proc msg and files era clear. they show information but says No files checked or no proc checked etc... i cant find nothing more. help please! good luck!!

it is important that you write the rules in revers order: individual rules first, global rules last in the config file.

hi again i continue my travel .. santander.xx.es (as you see below) have two PROC defined plus the default one. finalii I found that is a problem with Sparc arquitecture client 4.2 works well with SF411 and SF4200 ( i86pc i386) but proc ports check don´t work well for sun4u (sparc ) architecture

Hmmm. All my Sun machines are SPARCs and the PROC checking works. You do realize that you must compile a client package for each of those architectures? You cannot compile one Sun package and then use it on both i386 and SPARC architectures...
Also, what are all those "unknown token" messages about?

seems to be something with the hobbit client 4.2. could it be? i need to configure some more ? in my older clients it works . but in all my hobbit 4.2 clients doesn´t work. on this 4.2 clients i´m running some ext scripts and it works correctly , so there´s nothing to do with ghosts clients. by the other hand ports proc msg and files era clear. they show information but says No files checked or no proc checked etc... i cant find nothing more. help please! good luck!!

it is important that you write the rules in revers order: individual rules first, global rules last in the config file.

Hmmm. All my Sun machines are SPARCs and the PROC checking works. You do realize that you must compile a client package for each of those architectures? You cannot compile one Sun package and then use it on both i386 and SPARC architectures...
Also, what are all those "unknown token" messages about?

finalii I found that is a problem with Sparc arquitecture client 4.2 works well with SF411 and SF4200 ( i86pc i386) but proc ports check don´t work well for sun4u (sparc ) architecture
