TS - Is there a way to make the notes page go to a new window?
It there a way to make the NOTES webpage open a new window rather than having it appear in the same browser window.
This way, you could view both at the same time without have to go BACK and FORWARD between the screens.
I'm sure somewhere in the source code, this modification can be made in the <a> </a> information.
Or if you can have it open another TAB on the screen - that might also work.

You probably already know, but the files in the notes dir can be html files of your choice (even PHP if you desire). Of course, maintaining the files outside of the main hobbit config adds some duplication. I think there is already a notes editor but before I found out I had created some simple sql/php driven pages for files in the notes dir. As for where to edit the souce for the html _target I'm sure someone can point that out.

Tim

I would imagine you could grep through the code and add a target="_blank"

In the browsers I use I just right click on the "edit notes" menu item and it pops up a menu asking if I want to open the link in a new tab or on a new page or .... several other options I don't recall.

Yes, or you can use Shift-Click in at least IE and Firefox to open in a new Window, and in the tabbed versions of those two, you can use Ctrl-Click to open in a new Tab. I use that very often.

Add "--doc-window" to your XYMONGENOPTS in xymonserver.cfg (or to the xymongen command in tasks.cfg).
I can see the xymongen man-page is not up-to-date with this. Will fix.

I'm running xymon 4.2.3 and I have noticed that the file names mentioned have changed in a lot of comments on this list, but my file names are still the old bb file names.
I added this --doc-window to bbgenopts in the hobbitserver.cfg file and it broke the links in bb2 and any servers I had a notes file for.
Just FYI for anyone else trying this...

I am running 4.3.0-0.beta2 There is not xymonserver.cfg file There is a hobbitserver.cfg file
There is not XYMONGENOPTS= option but there is a BBGENOPTS= option When I add the --doc-window to that line, all of the links for the hosts are broken.
Thanks,

Oh, sorry - didn't notice that.
There is not XYMONGENOPTS=3D option but there is a BBGENOPTS=3D option
BBGENOPTS is the right one in beta2
When I add the --doc-window to that line, all of the links for the hosts are broken.
Well, I must admit I haven't tested that recently....
That is a bug. In the beta2 sources, edit the file bbdisplay/bbgen.c. Search for "--doc-window". There should be a few lines like these:
else if (argnmatch(argv[i], "--doc-window")) {
setdocurl("TARGET=\"_blank\"");
}
Change the "setdocurl" to "setdoctarget", i.e. setdoctarget("TARGET=\"_blank\"");
Recompile and copy the new bbdisplay/bbgen binary into your Xymon installation. The "--doc-window" option should now work as intended.
I'll commit an update to the Sourceforge repository for 4.3.0.
