Thanks. I got past that. Now how do I get it to run. I have run the make command. What’s next?

Charles,
See http://www.perzl.org/aix/index.php?n=Main.Make
It has precompiled gmake binaries for AIX 5.3 and above. Download the rpm and install on aix server and try again. I am trying to install xymon on my AIX 7.1 server. I am getting the following error:
pwd
/home/workspace/xymon/xymon-4.3.17
./configure
Configuration script for Xymon
This script asks a few questions and builds a Makefile to compile Xymon
Checking your make-utility GNU make is required to build Xymon. If it is available as "gmake", run configure as: 'MAKE=gmake ./configure.server'
./configure.client
Configuration script for Xymon client
This script asks a few questions and builds a Makefile to compile Xymon
Checking your make-utility GNU make is required to build Xymon. If it is available as "gmake", run configure as: 'MAKE=gmake ./configure.client'
Any ideas why its failing? I have installed gcc. I have not sure how to configure it. Is there a precompiled version out there or AIX filesets for xymon?
Thanks,

Hi Charles,
please use the Xymon mailinglist - the address for that is xymon at xymon.com<mailto:xymon at xymon.com>
Sounds like you need to install the GNU "make" utility.
Regards, Henrik

This may be a silly question, but have you read the install documentation? It's not clear where you're having trouble if you already built the software.

The install documentation in the docs directory.
Did you read the output of configure you ran before running gmake? It sort of looks like you don’t have a development environment on the machine (C compiler like gcc), or at least it’s not in your path.
I’m sure the platform was stated before, but that has been deleted from this email chain. So what is the platform?

Either the c compiler is not installed or not in your path. You need to install gcc compiler too: There is an rpm installalbe gcc already compiled for AIX. check out http://www.perzl.org/aix/index.php?n=Main.Gcc After you install the compiler remove the xymon makefile config and rerun your confirmation.
