I recently did this and it was pretty simple. Just make sure you have all the prerequisites installed (gcc, etc). and run the configure --client script.. Compiles just fine

(you may run into the -lt bug .. add this to your Makefile)

LIBRTDEF = -lrt

I have several servers and clients with different versions of hobbit/xymon running under Gentoo w/o problems.

To ease my installation and upgrade pain I've written the attached ebuilds.
