Hi,
i installed a new server with sles11 and Xymon 4.2.3. I must move our old server with the Hobbit Monitor 4.2.0 to the new machine.I reuse the most of the configuration files from the Hobbit Monitor 4.2.0 to configure Xymon.
My biggest problem ist, that xymon can´t recieve any data from my hobbit clients on the other machines. So i can only see the conn-, info- and trends Information. The other way around i recieve all data from my server (Xymon Server) over the xymon client. So i can check cpu-, disk status and so on. Must i install on all my machines a xymon client to recieve data ? That would be devastating.
I´m a amateur in Xymon and need help, because i can´t find a answer for my problem.
Kind regards Thorben Advena <http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=thMx..&search=reuse>

Did you have a working setup with Hobbit 4.2.0, with clients that sent data correctly? Are you using the same IP or DNS name on the new server as configured in the clients?

we have a working Hobbit 4.2.0 Server with nearly 200 Clients, which
send data correctly. For my new Xymon Server i use not the same ip and

You could do a tcpdump on the system to make sure you are seeing the packets hit the box...
tcpdump 'port 1984'
If you see packets, It's likely a hobbit issue. If not, you have a networking issue.

Hi,
i have a problem with my xymon server OR client. I wrote some weeks
ago an email with some informations and got some answers. I tried all,
but my xymon server works not well.
My biggest problem is, that xymon can´t recieve any data from the xymon clients. So i can only see the conn-, info- and trends Information.
The problem is, that i don´t have any network activity. The client
can´t sent any data and the server can´t receive data.
In the hobbitclient.cfg on a client, i wrote the IP address from the
xymon server.
I copied the hobbit-clients.cfg from my old working hobbit server.
I can´t find a answer for my problem.

On you server try:
% # netstat -an | grep 1984 | grep LISTEN
It should return:
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:1984
0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
If not, your hobbitd is not started.
Next on your server try % bb localhost hobbitdboard You should get a list of hosts, tests, status, etc information.
Then on both your server and a client try: % bb server hobbitboard
If you get something like: 2009-09-08 09:50:56 Could not connect to bbd at server:1984 - Connection refused 2009-09-08 09:50:56 Whoops ! bb failed to send message - Connection failed
It is possible you are running a host firewall (e.g. iptables) and need to allow connections through that.

maybe you allready tried this:
use a program to monitor the traffic and see if there is any communication between 2 computers. than check the firewall the settings of client and server check on server for ghost client, it means the name in bb-host is different from the real name of the client

Hi.
One of our customers want one repeat of an SMS alert, and then nothing more, regardless of acknowledgement. Is it possible to configure the number of repeats thst will be sent out? I tried adding a second sms line to hobbit-alerts.cfg, with a duration of 10 minutes more than the first one, but only the first sms was sent out, even though the downtime was longer than the second duration. It also looks fine when I check the "info" page.
Regards, Johan Sjöberg
IP of the server can be changed on the client machine in $installpath/client/etc/hobbitclient.cfg.
You need to change following: BBDISP="IP New Server"
If you use another port then the default one, you also need to change this in the same file.

Hi,
i installed a new server with sles11 and Xymon 4.2.3.

- Check BBDISP on the clients is getting to the new server
- Check firewall (telnet bbdisp 1984)

The network tests etc. are run on the server side. I assume you have clients already installed, reporting to the old server.

No, however you probably have the existing clients configured to send their data to the old server. You can either: 1)Hope that everything works, and switch the IPs / hostname of your hobbit server, tben it will receive the data 2)Enable the bbproxy task on the existing hobbit server, to proxy the data the clients send to the new server as well. When you are ready to switch, you can sync all the data across, and then just switch the IPs. You will need to change things on the existing server so hobbitd listens on a different port (e.g. 1985), and bbproxy listens on the normal port (1984), forwarding to the local hobbitd on port 1985, and the new hobbitd on port 1984 at the new IP.

You missed the one obvious one - on the clients - you need to go into the config files and make sure to configure in the server you want them to talk to. You can actually set them to send to both servers until you are ready and sure the new server is stable.
I am dong this right now with about 30 clients. Converting from a Solaris 9 implementation with 4.0 to a pair of RHEL5.2 64 bit servers with 4.2.3/
Next on my project list - get the bleeding ldap working for Xymon/ (Already have the wiki entry on it - no joy so far)
