Upgrading Hobbit 4.2 to xymon 4.3.2...
Has anyone performed this upgrade? I'm concerned about the name change and directory/file name changes. I have a production system but no test system to test the upgrade.

Have you tried creating a virtual environment? There's no substitute for being able to test upgrades yourself. I use Sun's VirtualBox - another alternative is VMWare Server. If you use a lightweight distro like Debian, you could use just about any PC to run a virtual machine.

With any decent PC you shouldn't have a problem running any distro out there (with VMWare Workstation).
Note that VMWare server is not meant for development in this case - you'll want to use workstation. But a great idea!

Really? Why is Server not meant for development? I was using it for some time before I discovered VirtualBox. These also have the benefit of being free (i.e. as in free beer).

I meant in his case. Any virtualization would work, wokstation is simplest (mostly for the snapshots as version 2 lacks them).

Only the default directory for the installation and the web server URL is changed. So if you keep these the same, nothing will change.
I upgrade some of my monitor servers. I moved all data to the new default installation directory and did a make install. I also changed the username from hobbit to xymon. For the url, I configured apache to redirect all hobbit url's to xymon (/hobbit -> /xymon and idem for the cgi urls).
These are the basic steps. Actually, I use subversion for the upgrade, but the idea is the same.
