We are monitoring about Windows 2003, 340+ servers using the Xymon. We have various models like of IBM,HP and DELL. We have installed the respective client packages like IBM Director, HP Insight and DELL Open Manage agents on the client side. We have configured appropriate community strings. Out of which very few of them we are able to get the status. Majority of the servers were not able to do the hardware monitoring.
Checked the SNMP configuration at the client side several times, did not find any issue with it.
We have opened all the required ports for this one.
Can any of you help to get the light of this issue?

Have you tried manually "snmpwalking" the hosts from your Xymon server ?
I'd first verify you can snmpwalk each device (or at least one of each type) from your server via shell doing: snmpwalk <-v2c or -v1> -c <comm string> host
If that's all good, then you probably just have devmon templates to tweak or make.

As far as hosts are concerned, it doesn't mater what it is as long as it has some sort of snmp daemon or server running on it that answers snmp polls and that your community strings are correct and there is access.
Xymon will be happy if a devmon template exists for the device being polled, then use details from that host template to get what you've asked for within the oid files.
If no template is found, devmon won't poll for details and report back to xymon. It does not imply that snmp traffic or polls to the host don't work.
Your xymon server is on a linux box I assume ? Troubleshoot from there polling some hosts manually. If that's not doable, then find a snmp tool that works on windows that does snmpwalks or polls and have that on the same network as the xymon server.

Has the devmon --readbbhosts command run after adding these servers to your bb-hosts file? If not, Devmon will not see the new servers to poll them. Also, make sure the servers are returning the proper string to match Devmon to a template. You might have to add the MODEL option in to your bb-hosts file for servers which are not matching on their own.

Thanks lot for your reply.
Our problem here is as follows. I will provide details steps for the same.
We are monitoring Windows 2003 servers using the Xymon monitoring. We were able to monitor everything. Except the Hardware monitoring of IBM boxes, which are consists of 10 different models. To have hardware monitoring in place, we have installed IBM Director Platform agent and configured the SNMP. And the Xymon collector is on linux platform.
We have total of 340 servers
Among the 340 servers, very few of them work fine. But, remaining servers had problem of monitoring the hardware devices.
We have checked the configuration of SNMP from the client side, it looks just fine. We have configured right community strings etc.
Despite of all this efforts, we were still not able to resolve the issue.
Since hardware monitoring is very critical, Can you please help to throw some light of this issue.
Your help is highly appreciated.

I use devmon for snmp polling for Xymon, and all the Dell (up to e.g. 1750 - we stopped buying Dell after we bought the 1750s) and HP servers (up to ProLiant generation 5 boxes, e.g. DL380G5) we have are monitored adequately with the existing devmon templates.

You need to verify that the correct templates are used, and also manually check that the OIDs are working.

Majority of
the servers were not able to do the hardware monitoring.
I use devmon for snmp polling for Xymon, and all the Dell (up to e.g. 1750 -
we stopped buying Dell after we bought the 1750s) and HP servers (up to
ProLiant generation 5 boxes, e.g. DL380G5) we have are monitored adequately
with the existing devmon templates.

And what does it say if you click one of the clear tests?

You need to verify that the correct templates are used, and also manually check that the OIDs are working.

Please try and provide more detail than one answer to one question, otherwise this is going to take a week to try and resolve.
Please increase the verbosity for devmon, and post the relevant portions of the log (to the devmon mailing list).
Please also supply the hardware model, and the template in use, for the server in question.

The server model is DELL POWER EDGE 1650. On which we have Windows2003 running.
I have installed the DELL OPEN MANAGE 6.2 windows hardware monitoring agent on the server.
Xymon collector is on Linux platform, where most of the network device hardware monitoring is happening fine.
I am herewith enclosing the snmpwalk details.

It would be a lot easier if you just told us the message from devmon. What does it say when you click the clear status? Does it say that some OID is missing? Are there any errors in the devmon log file? Have you made this template yourself? As far as I know, there is no "health" test in the Dell template included with devmon.

As Bruce stated, the wrong template is probably used. You should have errors in the devmon log corresponding to the status error. Have you read the devmon documentation? If you are going to use devmon you will need to have some knowledge about how to troubleshoot it yourself, and how to manually define templates for various hardware.

The same template is in use for several thousands of network devices and servers.
Will explain issue in detail.
We have planned to monitor the H/W of the servers, configured correct community string, and configured the SNMP service on the servers. And we have installed the appropriate agents software like DELL OPEN MANAGE,HP INSIGHT MANAGER and IBM DIRECTOR PLATFORM.
These are working fine for few servers, and majority of them are not working. All the servers are windows 2003 boxes.

Well, apparently you are not using the dell-poweredge template, since that template does not include a "health" test as in your screenshot. You cannot use the same template for network devices as for servers. Have you checked /var/log/devmon.log?

You should not be using the same template for network devices and servers ... they all support different MIBs/OIDs.

Bad thing is that, we are not getting any errors, other than repeatedly missing " the primary OID".
But, in this case, you would definitely get more useful information in the log file if you increased the verbosity, which would help to identify the problem.
For example, on problem experienced with the compaq-server template is that the SNMP table is incomplete in the case of no hot spare being configured on the server, which means some requests fail, and devmon determines that the host is not responding correctly, and all the other tests go 'clear'. This can be worked around by using the compaq-servernohspare template, but is (I think) fixed better in the current svn version (where "failed" OIDs which returned no error message are not treated as failures).
But, you really seem to not want to help us to address your problem. After two requests from me to provide the log files after increasing the verbosity, for the models which are giving problems, which templates you are using on these hosts, you have failed to provide this information.
I can only assume you aren't really committed to resolving this.
Regards, Buchan
have you done the "readbbhosts" ?
devmon -vvv --readbbhosts | grep <host not working>
You should get back info if it did or didn't find a template for the host. If no template is matched Xymon will not poll that device...if it finds a template (its based on sysdescr) then it will use what ever if defined within the template, but of course the oids your polling have to be correct as well.

Can you please help how to resolve this issue?

On Xymon dashboard, they are showing blank as like below one.
Please try and provide more detail than one answer to one question, otherwise this is going to take a week to try and resolve.
Please increase the verbosity for devmon, and post the relevant portions of the log (to the devmon mailing list).
Please also supply the hardware model, and the template in use, for the server in question.

You are not getting a sysdesc field so it can't match to a template. Try putting a MODEL tag in your bb-hosts entry.

Just looking at the OIDS returned, none are in the enterprises range for the DELL Poweredge MIB (1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10893). One part of your problem maybe accessing the hardware information from the MIB.
David.

Thanks lot for your inputs.
Those had helped me to find out the solution. It was happened due to wrong version of DELL OPEN MANAGE agent version installed on the box.
It has been resolved by installing the correct version of software.
