That's a typo... It should read... /usr/lib/hobbit/service for both. As far as location "/usr/lib".. This is where the rpm installed the software. But your right I should move it. Hello, New to Hobbit... I cannot start hobbit via the service command. When I try I get the following error: I type: service hobbit start Error is: Starting hobbit: su:/bin/bash permission denied. I am using server custom scripts that return HTML code to the hobbit to display. One of which is bbmrtg! I upgraded Friday to the latest snapshot because of another e-mail stating that it was patched in RC2. NKEdit functionality

It seems I cannot make this message arrive on the Mailing List... (this is the 3rd time I'm forwarding it) Hi Henrik, Thanks for the good work!! First of all a little bug report.... In the /home/bb/server/etc/hobbitcgi.cfg there no definition for $CGI_NKEDIT_OPTS (at least for the yesterday snapshot) I've downloaded the snapshot yesterday but it seems that the nkedit/nkview functionality are not working with my setup... I've manually changed the hobbitnk.cfg file to put an host that exists in my configuration but it seems that nkedit cannot get the configuration (it didn't find that host/service) and if I try to insert anything i get an Internal Error from apache. I'm also trying to create a comprehensive hobbit configuration program that can edit all the files in the hobbit configuration (hosts, alert, client, services, graphs, etc.). My unix programming skill are a bit old so I'm developing it in .NET for windows (also because some of the user here that can need to modify the configuration are windows people that know nothing about telnet or ssh or vi :P). The interface will be a MDI interface with one child-window for each configuration file and it will be simple to include in the program new configuration file of others addon (as the snmp or bb-msgs and so on). At the moment I'm trying to understand how to get/put the file on the hobbit machine and the simplest one is via ftp... I think I can get the file also via the bbmessage.cgi but then I've to get via bbmessage.cgi and put with ftp ... Continue the good work! Thanks Francesco

Hi, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but after stopping and starting Hobbit, the conn column goes red when disabled untill OK. Then you have to disable them again. Just installed hobbit 4.1.2 on a SuSE 10 linux machine - monitoring 3 web servers and it worked a charm. Tock me less than 1 hour to set-up, including intergration of an sms paging service. My next step will be to get the apache servers providing stats via server-status to hobbit. [hobbit] Logfile monitoring - I'd like some comments

My two cents/pence/francs/pesetas/whatever (I am overcharging): I think it would be cool if the Hobbit client could watch arbitrary log files for arbitrary messages and turn that into status alarms. But don't assume that /var/log or /var/adm or /var/adm is accessible to ordinary (as in Hobbit client) users -- not around here, anyway. Besides, I already have another solution for managing my UNIX syslogs -- what I don't have is a way to manage all of my application log files. Wonder how it would work if the client somehow retrieved "orders" from the BB server at startup and this was used to drive a client-side scanner? I like the notion of centralized configuration, but... Otherwise, you might as well forward all the logs to the central server (syslog-ng?) and have the server parse them. But this wouldn't work for the logs that I want to root through with the clients. It would be ideal if the central config was somewhat bb-hosts-ish, and could accept (in addition to aforementioned includes) host-specific directives for what to log. I am assuming that how to react will already be host-specific like every other test, yes? As far as the logs rotating out... couldn't hobbit look for an environment variable for the format of the rotated logs...? The filenames vary host to host, but on a given host, a quick look at /var/log tells you what to expect, right? Lastly - being someone who couldn't program his way out of a paper stack, i will now cheekily suggest that on install, hobbit could look at /var/log and guesstimate the format, and ask for human confirmation (as it already does for the hobbit user and homedir).
