[hobbit] client-local.cfg? feature request?

Are there plans to support regular expressions in the client-local.cfg for hostname, log, file, ignore, and trigger? It is not clear what support there is for regular expressions, perhaps it is already there for ignore, and trigger, but not log, file or the hostname? From the documentation: The *file:FILENAME* line defines the filename of the file to monitor. As with the "log:" entries, a filename enclosed in backticks means a command which will generate the filenames dynamically. I am not sure I can do this: file:"mci-nornxdb0[1-6].SNMP_COMMUNITY.public.nxg21:SIG_SNMP.`date +%Y%b%d`" But let's assume I can or even that the whole file name has to be a command in back ticks. Do you then put the exact same back ticked string in hobbit-clients.cfg? FILE "mci-nornxdb0[1-6].SNMP_COMMUNITY.public.nxg21:SIG_SNMP.`date +%Y%b%d`" mtime>900 yellow -- David

BBWin error after installing v0.6

Oversize status or data/client msg

Hi, What is the unit for "n" and "limit" -is it really bytes?- in following messages: Oversize data/client msg from 1.2.3.4 truncated (n=815596, limit 524288) Oversize status msg from 1.2.3.5 for smaug:ports truncated (n=370718, limit=262144) I'm asking this because although we get quite offen messages like above, the biggest file stored in the histlogs is only ~75 KB. AIX client - can someone confirm a "ps" command?

I'm modifying the client "ps" command to provide information about processes CPU- and memory-usage, so that sometime in the (not so distant) future Hobbit can track these and perhaps warn if a process becomes a cpu-hog. I have gotten most of the OS'es that Hobbit supports, but I need someone with an AIX box to confirm that this "ps" command works, and provides information about the ressource usage for all processes on the box: ps axww -o pid,ppid,user,stat,pri,pcpu,time,pmem,rss,vsz,cmd This was constructed from an AIX man-page I found on the 'net (and it is very much like the others). One thing that puzzled me is that AIX apparently does not support reporting the start-time of a process. It that really correct ? And if not, what is the keyword for this ? And while I have the attention of you AIX people out there: If someone could grab the latest snapshot and build me a Hobbit client for AIX 5.3 I would really appreciate it - I need to install a client on such boxes, but I would have to get the development tools setup first. [hobbit] TEXT field, feature request/modification?

Henrik, The TEXT field is a nice addition. Unfortunately, some of our custom scripts that monitor logs, ports, files etcetera, output a very nice page of how to troubleshoot the problem, contact responsible parties etcetera. Would it be too much to make the TEXT field HTML friendly, so we can embed a link? That way we can direct the end-user to the info on our troubleshooting pages. ~David

OpenLDAP performance and replication monitoring with Hobbit

We run a number of OpenLDAP servers, currently we have about 11 in production (depending how you count clusters) and a few in DR sites etc. We have been doing performance monitoring in the past (ie running scripts via snmp, monitoring with mrtg), but it seemed logical to move it to Hobbit and do everything in one place (useful for the syncrepl monitoring below). We have two separate instances that we manage, only one currently uses Hobbit for production monitoring (the other installation has hobbit installed, which is publicly accessible at present, but isn't used for production monitoring). The instance with the publicly accessible installation has OpenLDAP 2.1 and 2.2 servers, the other one has OpenLDAP 2.3 servers (using sync replication). So, I have written an extension script using perl-ldap (and Date::Manip) which we are now using via Hobbit's ncv module for performance monitoring. Replication status of sync-repl slaves is also checked (green for in sync, yellow for out of sync, clear if the sync-repl master could not be contacted to check the contextCSN, green if it is not a sync-repl slave). For slaves using sync-repl (no examples publicly available for now), the "&green Not a syncrepl slave" can be something like: &yellow dc=mydomain,dc=com out of sync 4 weeks 4 days 15:5:11 behind or &green dc=mydomain,dc=com in sync (with one such line for each syncrepl database, we have two or more on our production OL 2.3 boxen) Now, I could s/:/;/g or similar, but it would be nice if there were a way to prevent ncv from parsing a line (since I would also like to be able to graph the CIM extension results with ncv, but it has output and &green/&yellow/&red's all over).
