Probably been asked for before, but here goes. On some of our busier servers we have very long lines of checks, many of which are closely associated with other checks on that line, what I would like to do is group them on that server line under a name which links to a subpage with the checks I want in them so for instance. Infra-01 conn cpu disk files info int01-08 memory meta msgs oradb orasys oratns oralocks aq ports procs ssh trends Under the way I would like them you could group all the ora checks under a separate title and page so it would like as follows Infra-01 conn cpu disk files info int01-08 memory meta msgs Oracle ports procs ssh trends | | Oradb orasys oratns oralocks aq Hope that makes sense. TOP withing hobbitclient-sunos.sh

Hi I do not see any list of process on the "cpu" column. I am running hobbit client 4.2.0 on Solaris 8. I do have top installed. If I run which top as hobbit user I get /usr/local/bin/top. Now I do not follow this section of the hobbitclient-sunos.sh file # $TOP must be set, the install utility should do that for us if it exists. if test "$TOP" != "" then if test -x "$TOP" then echo "[top]" $TOP -b 20 fi fi It seems like the "install utility" did not find the top command. I know it is the not the TOP in hobbitclient.cfg according to the following lines # The following defines a bunch of commands that BB extensions expect to be present. # Hobbit does not use them, but they are provided here so if you use BB extension # scripts, then they will hopefully run without having to do a lot of tweaking. Gnokii and Hobbit

Hi Has anyone managed to get gnokii to work with Hobbit for alerts? I'm a bit stumped. I have a premicell and a serial cable going from the server to the premicell. I compiled gnokii and from the command line I can do: echo "some msg" | gnokii --sendsms <cell number> And that works. However following the examples from the Hobbit website on sms notifications does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Regards Michael Magua

PAGE alerts

Appear to have hit a small bug. When attempting to setup PAGE= alerts, systems defined as: 0.0.0.0 xxx.yyy.com # noconn did not work. No match was found, when trying hobbitd_alert --test xxx.yyy.com Can someone please confirm? Using Hobbit on NetBSD

Hi, I tried to make Hobbit run on NetBSD 3.0 for quite some time and always failed because of: Could not get sem: No space left on device To get more semaphores, one has to recompile the kernel of NetBSD with greater values for semaphores, as for example: options SHMMAXPGS=4096 options SHMSEG=256 options SEMMNI=256 options SEMMNS=512 options SEMMNU=256 options SEMMAP=256 Details about these settings can be found in "man options". Hendrik, maybe you can include that bit of information on http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/docs/known-issues.html Apart from that issue, looks good and also solves the problem of broken graphs for me. Hello, I got this message regularly on my bbgen report, Error output: WARNING: Runtime 29 longer than BBSLEEP (25) but i don't find any BBSLEEP variable in the config files. It should also be nice to have the possibility to send the OS/Version from script different from the bbclient so that we could have OS/Version for Network appliance storage, databases, switches and routers in the correct field. > -----Original Message----- > From: T.J. [hobbit] Hobbit cluster and DRDB

Hi... I use drbd and heartbeat for some clusters at work. We run apache, mysql, qmail, pound (a free load balancer), an Oracle Instance (where we cannot use our RAC) and also for the admin server of a weblogic server. I'm using drbd 0.7.xx and heartbeat 1.2.x on RHEL3 and RHEL4, 32 and 64 bit. Some of those cluster are running from more then one year without any problems. Heartbeat it simple to install and need no mainteinance at all, you can upgrade it without problems (the 2.0 also support multinode cluster). DRBD can also be configured to get some performance boost at risk for data writing on disk (he have 3 mode of disk writing). If you have a free network card you can dedicate it to heartbeat and drbd with a crossover cable and at least with Linux the networking work quite well so you can get good performance on a 1gb network card. The only "problem" with drbd is that if you need to upgrade the kernel you'all also need to recompile the drbd drivers for that kernel or you'll not see the disks. Heartbeat and drbd will integrate themself simply without problems. You'll end with a shared disk (that can be only primary in write access from one node) where you'll install the entire hobbit home directory, a shared ip address that you will use as ip address for hobbit. You will just need one line of configuration in the heartbeat resource file to put the ip, the device to mount and the script to start hobbit. Regarding performance I think it will not be so bad but I think it will depends from how many rrd youre using for graphs. I think that with a gb network card and a good buffer for io the performance will not be a problem. I don't have a big knowledge of SunCluster but it seems to me really more complicated. From what I remember you also need a fc disk or some scsi disk connected to the 2 machine to work as quorum device for the cluster and it's a bit intrusive inside the OS kernel with his drivers (I don't know if with solaris 10 and new version of suncluster something has changed). I know it's more sophisticated but also really more complicated and difficult to setup related to heartbeat and it's free to download and use but I don't know how much support you'll get for the free version if you have a problem. Hearthbeat setup will take about 5 minutes and all you have to do is to edit 2 file ... And it also run on Solaris (I didn't test it but at least it's what's written on the website :D) Francesco

[hobbit] procs test keeps paging, although green for +4 days

Interesting problem, we keep getting paged for a procs test on a host twice a day although the procs test has been green for the last 4+ days. It would appear something is stuck? What to look at? It is in couple 'chk' files in ~/server/tmp, but I wouldn't know what to make of that. Ideas to troubleshoot? ~David
