Upgrade report Did an upgrade from 4.1.2p1 to 4.2.0 this morning, using the source tarball. Everything seems to be OK after the upgrade, except that I cannot use the Metrics Report CGI because the box where the hostnames should be listed in narrow and blank. I added the entry in my menu_items.js file and the options to hobbitcgi.cfg as mentioned in the release notes. No mention of any errors using hostgraphs.sh in any log file. Any ideas where I should look? Tom

[hobbit] "ports" RRD graph not showing up

I'm running Hobbit 4.2.0 and just added a PORTS section for one of my hosts. It looks like the server is checking the ports correctly, but the RRD graph isn't showing up, even with the TRACK statement. PORT LOCAL=%[.:]4001$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5001$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5002$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]4001$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=4001 HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5001$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=5001 HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5002$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=5002 HOST=<hostname> I don't see anything of interest in the client or server logs. Any ideas?

Attack of the purple port

Hi, I just upgraded my hobbit server to 4.2.0 on a RH AS4 box. Everything is working great! *except* (hah, you knew that was coming didn't you) the ports status is purple for my hobbit server, and like the few others on here, my hobbitd goes yellow. UNLIKE others here, I have no messages that I can find anywhere about truncated data. I added MAXMSG_CLIENT=1024 to the hobbitserver.cfg and restarted, but this didn't fix the problem. Perhaps I am not looking in the correct logfile? Maybe there is a setting I am overlooking? If there is more info i can provide, please let me know. I do not have any port checks defined, but on all my other boxes, it doesn't display purple, it just shows gray with the data. Thanks, jeff

uptime column

Hello all, I have a question for you about the idea to separate the cpu column of the uptime alert. The idea would be to create a new column called uptime which will be yellow or red if it reboots. The advantage is for history. When you actually look to the history to find quickly when the server has rebooted in the past, it is not easy to know if it was a reboot or a cpu alert, you have to click on each different alert status to check the content. But, with this new column, even if the width of each BB page is larger than before, it would be so easy to list all reboots of a host. I implemented this in BBWin and it is very appreciated by my colleagues, so that's why I post the message to get the opinion of you. I think putting uptime alert in the cpu column was inherited from big brother so may be it could be changed depending the agreement of Henrik and hobbit users. Henrik, what do you think about that ? Another stellar release

I've finished implementing Hobbit 4.2 at a customer site, the last little problem being the rrd issue that Henrik (and others) confirmed the problem that I was having with moving graphs between architectures. When the release notes indicated that there was up to a 50% reduction in CPU Utilization, I really took notice. This customer runs Hobbit in a shared, virtualized environment (in a Linux virtual machine on the mainframe). In this environment we like applications that get the work done while using the least amount of CPU and memory possible. Before 4.2 at it's peak the Hobbit virtual machine would use ~13% of the CPU. I wasn't worried too much about that, since the peak comes at a consistent interval. After 4.2 I've noticed that the Hobbit virtual machine now barely gets about 1% of CPU Utilization. I was very surprised at the significant reduction in resources required for this release. I must commend Henrik, not only on this wonderful achievement, but also on the amazing new features in 4.2. Messing with logfiles before Hobbit sees them

Shire folk: I have a log file that I need to pass through a filter before Hobbit reviews it. I know I can simply some up with some "tail -f | filter > updated.file" kludge. Is there a way to get Hobbit to do this when it reads the file? Any ideas? GLH

Solaris 10 service monitoring

Hello - I'm running into an issue where I need to monitor the individual services ( svcs -a ) instead of the processes (ps -ef) on multiple Solaris 10 clients. I didn't see anything in the man pages about it (although I may have missed it) so I was wondering if anyone has been able to set Hobbit up to do so? Are there any detail instructions for installing hobbit? I have tried (three times) with no success. The environment: Solaris 9, full dist +OEM user: hobbit home: /export/home/hobbit Installed: (from Free for Solaris) gcc make (GNU) pcre rrdtool libpng openssl openldap Thanks in advance for your help.

HELP!!! I'm trying to do a complete new install of "hobbit 4.2.0". I want to believe I have followed all the instructions. I have tried the install twice with the same results. This is at the end of the output of the make command. - this is the error message - Undefined first referenced symbol in file ldap_start_tls_s ldaptest.o ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors.
