Ghost report does not work in 4.2.0?

Hi- I tried to run the Ghost Report. All I get is: "Failed to retrieve ghostlist from server" on the BB display. Pre-configured VMware hobbitserver available for download

I've put together a VMware virtual machine configured with Debian Linux and a Hobbit server installation. If you have the VMware Player installed (free download from www.vmware.com) this lets you have a demonstration / test / play-around-with-stuff Hobbit server running without setting up a dedicated server for it. Since VMware Player is available for MS-Windows, it will even let you run a Hobbit server on a Windows-based system, although at the cost of having a virtual server running (i.e. you'll need a bit of RAM to support it). For those who want to play with it, it is available from the Hobbitmon "Files" area on sourceforge.net. Choose the "hobbitdemo" package: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058&package_id=200… Just one warning: It's a 250 MB download. Regards, Henrik

[hobbit] Windows Quota Monitoring

Etienne, It is writing to the event logs I see, but since they are just informational messages it doesn't really "alert" us to anything. I'll just check them manually since it looks like they are checked every hour and logged it should be easy to skim the logs by hand (since it's only one server here that we're watching this for). I just wondered if anyone had any neat automated stuff out there. I am planning to make a solaris pkg for hobbit client. I am planning expire all bbclients from all 300 hosts (except the external scripts) and replace them with hobbit client 4.2. I am pleased to announce the release of Hobbit version 4.2.0. This release comes after a full year of development since the previous release, and 2 months of dilligent testing by lots of dedicated people on the Hobbit mailing list. It is safe to say that this is the best tested release of Hobbit ever done. This release is very much focused on Hobbit clients. The highlights of this release are: * Full client support. The Hobbit clients now support monitoring of cpu-, disk- and memory-utilisation, as well as system logfiles, network ports and traffic, processes, file- and directory sizes, system clock synchronization, and much more. When a problem is detected on a host, the client data is automatically saved so it is available for later troubleshooting - even if the host has completely crashed. * Pull-style data collection for DMZ hosts. Clients normally connect to the Hobbit server to deliver their data. For DMZ hosts this is often not possible due to firewall restric- tions. For such hosts, Hobbit 4.2 supports server-pulling of the data. * Automatic updates of Hobbit client installations. Client installations of Hobbit 4.2 can be updated automatically without having to physically access the client hosts. Updates can be rolled out automatically from the Hobbit server, to individual clients or all of your monitored systems. * A new "Acknowledgment" webpage lets administrators acknowledge alerts easily, without having to know the ack-code required in previous releases. * A new "Critical systems" webpage allows detailed configuration of critical systems for large-scale operations. A web-based configuration tool enables the monitoring operations staff to easily configure individual hosts and/or services to appear on the Critical Systems view, and allows them to focus on the most important events at any given time. * A new "Metrics report" webpage allows for comparison of trend data across hosts, e.g. to view the effect of loadbalancing a service across multiple hosts. * Several independent projects have sprung up, including a BBWin (a client for MS-Windows based systems); DevMon (a data collection tool for SNMP-enabled devices); and The Shire (a repository for Hobbit add-ons, sample configurations, and other interesting things). Fixed it!! Found the client was being started with the "--local" option and hence using the ~hobbit/client/etc/localclient.cfg" file for the limits - not the servers. Arguments passed to hobbitclient.sh

Looking through the hobbitclient.sh while creating a patch to update my systems I noticed that the arguments passed from within the clientlaunch.sh script, other than -local, are ignored. Passing $* to the hobbitd_client call will fix this issue. Jason

Great job Henrik! I am trying to understand the client-local.cfg. I see now all types of linux in the file, but how does the client decide which one to take? if he uses the uname -s then it will be always linux? or not. And if you use a [hostname] section he does not read the [linux] section any more? Peter Jakobs ps. Release notes say that the DOWNTIME in bb-hosts can now be applied to individual test. The man page of bb-hosts doesn't say so. As far as I tried it, it should contain a test(s)
