I'm having problems getting some particular NCV graphs to display (I get missing graph link) . I have successfully added other NCV graphs, and I thought I knew what I was doing, but alas I am stuck and cannot figure out what I've done wrong. I'm hoping that Henrik or anyone can see what I'm doing wrong. What I've checked so far: * Script is properly sending data message to Hobbit * Hobbit is receiving the data and creating RRD files * The RRD files are being updated * proper? definitions in TEST2RRD * proper? definition in hobbitgraph.cfg, using correct rrd filename and ds name I have a server-side script that collects database connection stats for Tomcat processes (5 seperate processes per server). The collector script is working fine, and I verified that rrd files are being created and populated. The DS is "dbconn": extt$ ~/local/bin/rrdtool dump ../../data/rrd/host1/tc_1_1-dbconn.rrd |grep name <name> dbconn </name> data is definitely going into the rrd file(s): ext$ ~/local/bin/rrdtool dump ../../data/rrd/host/tc_1_1-dbconn.rrd |grep row |grep -v NaN  <row><v> 2.0000000000e+00 </v></row>  <row><v> 2.0000000000e+00 </v></row>  <row><v> 2.6633333333e+00 </v></row>  <row><v> 3.6533333333e+00 </v></row>  <row><v> 5.2866666667e+00 </v></row> Here is the test definition I am using in hobbitgraph.cfg: [tc_1_1-dbconn] TITLE Tomcat Database Connections YAXIS # DEF:dbconn=tc_1_1-dbconn.rrd:dbconn:AVERAGE LINE2:dbconn#00CCCC:database connections COMMENT:(5 Minute Combined Avg)\n GPRINT:modjk:LAST: \: %5.6lf (cur) GPRINT:modjk:MAX: \: %5.6lf (max) here is the relavant additions I made to the TEST2RRD section of hobbitserver.cfg: TEST2RRD="<hobbit default settings>,tc_1_1-dbconn=ncv,tc_1_2-dbconn=ncv,tc_1_3-dbconn=ncv,tc_1_4-dbconn=ncv,tc_1_5-dbconn=ncv,tc_2_1-dbconn=ncv,tc_2_2-dbconn=ncv,tc_2_3-dbconn=ncv,tc_2_4-dbconn=ncv,tc_2_5-dbconn=ncv,tc_3_1-dbconn=ncv,tc_3_2-dbconn=ncv,tc_3_3-dbconn=ncv,tc_3_4-dbconn=ncv,tc_3_5-dbconn=ncv" Once I can get this single graph working, I plan on creating a definition that will display all of the dbconn data in one graph (per host). -Charles

How to make defaults only for a subset of hosts

[hobbit] Server-side extension scripts: shell vs. C programming

I remember reading somewhere in the Hobbit documentation that when an extension script starts to do a lot of things, it should be coded in a compiled language such as C, instead of as a shell script. I have a custom script that takes a lot of data and converts it into NCV graphs, and I believe it is at the point where I should consider rewriting it in C. Before I get to far into it, is the hobbitd_sample.c something that I should look at for this? I'm not sure if I'm reading the documentation on it correctly, if it is a good example for an external script. Has anyone else had experience in needing to convert a shell script to C/C++/etc for Hobbit? I'm just trying to get a rough idea of how much effort this will require.

Lost cpu graphs of Hobbit server

Hello, I'm a old BB user that's a new believer in Hobbit. I'm having an unusual problem I didn't see a reference to anywhere. About a day after I started the Hobbit server, I noticed that no more data was being added to the cpu RRD graph of the Hobbit server. It worked at first, but just stopped. I tried removing the RRD file to try to re-create the file, and no new file was created. I also noticed that the user/process graph also stopped updating for this machine. Orca in Hobbit

Event Log Report does not find events for 1 host

Hi, How can I test why it's not finding these events? rrd error messages

Greetings, I am getting a lot of errors in the rrd-status.log file. There are 2 actually that are appearing at an alarming frequency (and have been for quite a while): 2007-05-21 09:42:52 RRD error updating /var/hobbit/data/rrd/client.purdue.edu/disk,export,video.rrd from 128.210.xxx.xxx: unknown consolidation function '^?<F8>' 2007-05-21 09:42:52 RRD error updating /var/hobbit/data/rrd/client.purdue.edu/memory.real.rrd from 128.210.xxx.xxx: illegal attempt to update using time 1179754972 when last update time is 2146959360 (minimum one second step) Note that the system time on the hobbit server and on the clients are all synchronized with xntpd so the clocks aren't different. I am also having some trouble with a lot of NAN values in the disk history graphs. I'm wondering a) how to fix these errors, and b) if the errors have anything to do with not getting good data in the graphs. Thanks, Steve Holmes

Why no columns "cpu","disk","procs", "svcs" displayed for Windows 2003 clients on web page of hobbit server?

Hobbit server 4.2.0 running on RHEL4, BB client 1.08d on Windows 2003 servers. There're no such columns displayed , e.g. "cpu","disk","procs","svcs" for Windows 2003 (servers) clients. Only three columns, or "conn", "info","trends" displayed. no firewall between them. Some parameters dismatched? connection parameters on client are default as below: IP Port:1984, Timer:300,Logs Timer:60 But one Windows XP client looks like ok, almost same parameters. Any suggestion will'be appreciated. Regards, Case
