I have rules defined for many of my 300+ hosts ( a mix of windows and unix servers scattered throughout, and interleaved across, multiple pages. I want to define a default rule for hosts so that, for example, every conn alert goes to my unix administrators. I have experimented with several solutions which do not yield the desired result. e.g.: HOST=* EXHOST=<> # I can't explicitly list all hosts (too many) and tried macros consisting of wildcard host names MAIL ... HOST=* EXHOST=<> MAIL ... UNMATCHED if I use only HOST=* then I end up with multiple (sometimes redundant) recipients for some hosts and no recipients for hosts not previously explicitly defined. Help? thanks

logfetch "trigger" option doesn't appear to work as documented

Hi all, it seems the logfetch "trigger" option doesn't work as documented for our clients. We have configured in client-local.cfg: [servera] log:/var/adm/messages:10240 trigger scsi And in hobbit-clients.cfg: HOST=servera LOG /var/adm/messages "%scsi: WARNING" COLOR=RED My understanding is that because of the option "trigger", that the client should send all lines in the log file with the pattern "scsi" in it to the xymon server. In my experience however this is not the case and it just sends the last 10240 bytes. Have I configured something incorrectly or does the trigger command not work? I have also checked on the client that the logfetch cfg file contains the trigger option, which it does. Many thanks, James.

Problem converting 32 bit disk-rrd's to 64 bit

Hello, not exactly a hobbit problem, but as I am using rrd only with hobbit: I am converting my old hobbit/xymon server to a new one Copying just the data/rrd directory results in the message "ERROR: This RRD was created on another architecture". So I used "rrdtool dump <file>.rrd > <file>.xml" on the old and "rrdtool restore <file>.xml <file>.rrd -f" on the new server. Using the "--no-header" option to rrddump makes no difference. No error messages during the restore and no errors when I call the web pages. The new disk values in the rrd graphs are only 1/10 of the original size, e. g. a disk which is 82 % filled, shows up with only 8 %.. The text lines generated from the client data are correct. Hi friends, I've seen on the bb-hosts example file on www.hswn.dk/hobbit/ the line: 0.0.0.0 osiris.hswn.dk # dialup CLIENT:osiris DOWNTIME=*:2300:2359,*:0000:0800 NOPROPRED:procs TIMEOUT:4:9 Does someone know what this tag "TIMEOUT:4:9 " do? What version of xymon? Thanks in advance, Mario.

Connection Refused

I just set up a new server to connect to my hobbit server for monitoring. I can see conn, info and trends but nothing else. When I check the hobbitclient.log on the client server I see the following error: Could not connect to bbd at 127.0.0.1:1984 - Connection refused I have checked /etc/hosts , bb-hosts, and uname and the names all match. Multiple disk definitions

Hi all Anybody had any experience trying to define multiple disk definitions. I have a range of servers, which for whatever reason, have highly variable partition sizes. E.g. ServerA /data1 2Tb /data2 200mb ServerB /data1 800gb /data2 4Tb /data3 20gb Setting a blanket value of DISK * 90 95 Will not give good results, because on a 4Tb volume, 90% is still 400Gb available, while on a 200mb volume, this is only 20mb What I would like to do, is define a percent or absolute, based on disk size. Does anyone know if you can submit a "page" message vi the bb client so that it goes to hoobit_alert. I want to raise an alert via hobbit for something that we have no current check for. If it is possible does anyone have an example message syntax. The man page seems to hint that page messages can be sent something like, bb [options] RECIPIENT "page <HOST><test> <message>" but this does not seem to generate an alert for me. Thanks Dave. Troubleshooting No Graph for Service

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to troubleshoot why a files graph wouldn't be showing up, yet other hosts with similar configurations are just fine. The variations are version of OS (RHEL3,4,5), paths that include dots and don't, and if a single file vs a file/directory pair are being monitored.
