Hi all, I¹m looking for a mac client for Hobbit / bb. I searched google, and I see there is a mac client by ³Japheth Cleaver² Which you can download here: http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~cleaver/software/ BUT, this client needs extra software. This software: Unix Date and NetEvents, points to locations that don¹t exist anymore. Can anyone point to these utilities that I can download them, or point me to another mac client?? hi, SNMP is the protocol used by monitoring systems to get data from clients... does hobbit use SNMP or there is an other protocol?! thanks :-)

I've added the perl script example that Henrik provided late January to the tutorials page on The Shire. http://www.trantor.org/theshire/doku.php/tutorials:ssmodule Hopefully, Henrik won't mind. (I may be "borrowing" some of Henrik's content for the other tutorials yet to be written...of course, if someone would like to volunteer the tutorials I'd be happy to consider them for addition). If you have other ideas about tutorials or FAQs, please let me know. I'm trying to make more time for the site (interestingly, I showed a manager from one of our other groups Hobbit in passing one day...he just happened to have been looking for an easy to setup/configure monitoring solution...he's been singing the praises of Hobbit since) =G=

Dear list, I'm now using hobbit (4.2) for a few months and I really like it's possibilities, thanks for writing it! However, one thing I've not found and answer for yet, is how to handle downtime which is in the past. The ISP where my monitoring box is located suffered a DDoS quite recently, which rendered the monitoring quite useless. I'm now looking for a way to tell hobbit "all the downtime and alerts between <timestamp> and <timestamp> can be safely ignored and should not be taken into account when generating an availability report". Is this possible? Thanks in advance! Wouter

big brother replacement

Hello list, It's that time of year again - we're looking for alternatives to our aging bb infrastructure - although it's been helped by the bbgen extensions, it is showing it's age, and is getting harder to support as time goes by. Of all the potential replacements we've looked at, I don't really like any of them - the commercial bb stuff is uninspiring, and their linux support is lacking. The other solutions tend to be heavyweight j2ee and database apps, or oddities like nagios. What I'd really love to find is something like an up-to-date version of big brother+bbgen, something like hobbit. Unfortunately, last I checked, hobbit still lacked a crucial capability that we depend on, the built-in bb failover mechanism. We have 2 data centers, several hundred miles apart, with bb servers in several lans at both sites. Each bb server has a twin at the other location, and they both monitor the servers in both data centers, but only one of the bb servers does reporting, as determined by the failover state. The bb failover has worked marvelously, and has kept bb firmly in place so far, despite the other advantages of hobbit. So, the $64 question: Is there anything in hobbit, or on the horizon, which will allow hobbit to serve as a drop-in replacement for bb, including the failover capability? Hi, Xymon allow me to test the non existence of file or directory. But I'd like a more complex test. In my case, I don't want any directory named _FIXED_PART_anything in a whole tree. Example : I've /toto/_FIXED_PART_1 -> test is red /toto/a/sub/directory/_FIXED_PART_hello_world -> test is red So, is there a "normal" way to use "files" test included in xymon ? Regards, Damien

4.3.0-beta1 and "Trends Period Update"

Hi, Beside our 4.2.0 production server we set up a test server with Xymon 4.3.0-beta1 software. Since then, we noticed two problems: 1. The hobbit-holidays.cfg is not installed (this has been already reported) 2. The -very nice- "Trends Period Update" does not work for hostnames where "NAME:hostname" is used. In those cases, the whole name is passed to the wrapper resulting in "No such host" Example for host sila : NAME:"sila [Serval Prod.]" ~xymon-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?backdays=2&backhours=0&backmins=0&backsecs=0&HOST=sila+[Serval+Prod.]&SERVICE=trends&Go=Update Dominique
