XYMON was installed in /home/xymon home directory. The only changes were to use CentOS 6.5 and the latest Xymon 4.3.17 The only item that was not available for downloading was the line: wget http://iam8up.com/xymon-initd/xymon to have the startup in level 3. The file was not found on the Internet ... convert to FQDN

Greetings - I've been using Xymon (and Hobbit, and Big Brother before that) for many years. And unfortunately a decision I made LONG AGO is now rearing its ugly head: Fully Qualified Domain Names. Long ago I decided to use short names, and for the most part this has worked well. But now I need to convert to FQDN, and want to make certain I know all the steps involved: - edit hosts.cfg, perhaps use the CLIENT tag until I have all clients use FQDN - edit analysis.cfg, also changing hostnames - ditto for alerts.cfg - edit xymonserver.cfg, change FQDN to TRUE All the above is relatively straightforward. But something is reminding me about all the RRD files I have for my hosts. Do I need to rename them as well? Or will a "xymon 0 'rename SHORTNAME HOSTNAME.corp.org' " take care of this? And is there a way to have Xymon running to receive all the RENAME messages, yet disable network tests so new "phantom" hosts are not created? how to upgrade

Maybe I'm missing something but I can't seem to find any info on how to actually perform an upgrade on the xymon server. I'm using v4.3.12 and would like to use the latest version so I can have more customization on the info and trends icons. I've never actually done an upgrade before, just fresh builds. Column order and accessibility of the 'info' column

We're finding the 'info' column to be very important to us, but are also finding it a little difficult to find in the web displays. Since the number and titles of the columns displayed for each group vary, it is impossible to know which green diamond is the 'info' column without consulting the group-header. Is is difficult in a couple of cases: + If there are many hosts in a group, it can be hard to do the row/column matching to click the correct 'info' button. + If we use the 'find host/jump' function, the found host is at the top of the page and we must scroll up to find the header. I can think of several ways to make this more usable: + Use a unique icon (or icon set) for 'info'. Is 'info' ever be anything but green? + Let me rename the 'info' column like we can the 'conn' column. If it were named ' info' it would always sort to the left. + Let me specify an alternative column sort order for my pageset. + Make the 'find/jump' option jump to the group rather than the host. Can anyone suggest another way (which is already possible) I can use to improve the accessibility of the 'info' column? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. Potential bug in FILE analysis

Hi all Not sure if this really classifies as a bug or not. I am inclined to think it is. In clientlocal.cfg, I have [sunos] file:`/usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/find /var/crash/ -type f 2> /dev/null` And this finds 2 files. /var/crash/bounds /var/crash/vmdump.0 So far so good. However, /var/crash/ is a symlink to /var/share/crash/ And /var/share/crash has permissions or 700 So Xymon can determine there is a file, but cannot collect any metadata on the file, since it cannot stat the files in /var/share/crash/ In analysis.cfg I have this line (with appropriate HOST= value, of course) FILE %^/var/cores/.* NOEXIST red When I go to the "files" page, I see the file names there. Clicking on the file names, I get this info. [file:/var/crash/vmdump.0] ERROR: Permission denied But no red status appears on the test. Testing, using a similar directory structure, where Xymon can stat the files, does give a red status. I can understand that Xymon can't give any info on the file because of permissions, but in this case, all I care about is that the file exists, which Xymon has determined. To read the /var/core directory I added the xymon group to the root group on some machines, on others I have changed the perms. Removing a column from nongreen.html

Hello, I'm looking to remove a particular column from our nongreen.html view and I'm not sure how to accomplish this. Is there some setting I cannot locate that lets me add --ignorecolumns= to the XYMONGENOPTS specifically for the nongreen view? Also, any tips on creating a custom page with only the specific columns I want to view? Thanks, Mark

Monitoring Wifi connections

Hi, can anybody help me? I have created a script for xymon to monitor how many gadgets connect to our Sisco Wifi routers, both per router and per Ssid. I use snmp with this OID: "1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.2.1.1.1.38" to find the number on each of the Ssid:s and add them up. I use these OID:s: "1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.2.2.13.1.4.$ID.0" and "1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.2.2.13.1.4.$ID.1" to find the number of gadgets connected to the router with "$ID". Then I add them all up. The two sums are widely different where the Ssid sum is from 10 to 30 fewer. What am I doing wrong? Should the sums not show the same number of connections? Thanks Maria
