suppress log contents from 'msgs' column ?

In testing 4.3.20, I've noticed that the 'msgs' column (for hosts running the xymon solaris client) contain lines from my logs even when they are reporting 'green'. I don't really want the contents of /var/adm/messages leaked to every viewer of my Xymon web interface. I now see that this behavior is also on my 4.3.17 server. I've just never noticed it because: A) I never visit any 'green' bubbles B) I only have three hosts running the xymon client When the test goes 'red', I can see value in displaying the offending lines from the log, but I can't see any value in continually leaking arbitrary lines of my logs to arbitrary users. Is there an easy way to suppress these log lines from the green status messages? Argh. I've only now noticed that the 'cpu' column is also spilling all of my running processes. I thought I had taken care of that problem when I suppressed the 'procs' column. Does anyone actually derive value from having this information continually published on the Xymon web interface for all the world to see? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. I noticed the adreplication test has a typo in the powershell client v2.01. Line 2287 $output = ('status {0}.adreplicaton {1} {2}' -f $script:clientname, $alertColour, $outputtext) It should be adreplication (missing the i) Regards, Brandon

Mapping Values to Columns

I have been looking at the relationships between values returned by client scripts and which web page column reports the status. Let me walk you through some of the data before I pose my questions. This is some output from a Windows machine running the PowerShell client... [memory] memory Total Used physical: 8073 5679 virtual: 12000 952 page: 20071 6710 Out of this data are extracted the values "MEMACT", "MEMPHYS", and "MEMSWAP". They are different measurements, but all affect the color of the column "memory". How they affect the memory column is well documented in the Man page for analysis.cfg, but what maps "MEMACT", "MEMPHYS", and "MEMSWAP" to the column "memory"? What if I wanted to add an additional custom memory-related test and have it also affect the color of the "memory" column? Furthermore, when a server is rebooted the "cpu" column goes yellow, but the column titled "uptime" always stays green. How do I change this? [uptime] sec: 1568818 18 days 3 hours 46 minutes 57 seconds Bootup: 20150420074804.610798-240 I've looked into custom server-side modules and that looks like a step in the right direction, but won't get me 100% of the way there. xymon client - prevent monitoring of test

We recently installed the client onto a debian system, and it is sending back alerts on apt and libs. I've been searching for how to prevent these from even alerting, but haven't been able to. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to prevent the client from even monitoring those 2 columns? (TS) Trying to setup xymon on a VoIP asterisk server

I have loaded a CentOS 6.6 server and installed PBX-in-a-Flash (PiaF) VoIP server on it. I then installed xymon on the same server and allow it to use VoIP and text-to-speech for certain urgent and or out-of-ban alerting. This is a home project for me. Before retiring is was monitoring 1,200 devices and using 'ssh' to move requests to the PiaF server for this function. I thought the next logical progression would be to use the same server for both functions. I am having the same problem that I have with just installing a CentOS server with xymon on it. I added the additional commands from the installation to the end of the http configuration file but I cannot bring up the xymon web page. In this installation, the apache runs under 'asterisk/asterisk'. Is there some directive that I am missing to allow apache to access the xymon pages in the xymon installation under the 'xymon/xymon' permissions? I have written many scripts that I cannot test out under the latest xymon software release and make available to the community. This is the same problem that I was having earlier and have not found the solution to. I also wanted to try allowing someone to be able to call into the VoIP side to retire an alert, etc. Thanks, Tom Schmitt

In the process of creating it I noticed some problems with the documentation https://www.xymon.com/help/install.html: 1. RHEL6/7 documentation is missing dependencies: yp-tools c-ares-devel 2. Debian documentation is missing dependencies: libc-ares-dev dpkg-dev 3. I believe fping is no longer necessary as a dependency when building RPMS or debs 4. The /etc/init.d for xymon-client seems still missing on Debian/Ubuntu as reported here: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.monitoring.hobbit/30534 Best regards, Marcin

Email alerting for content check

Good afternoon, all. I'm running Xymon 4.3.19 and I've implemented content checking for specific URLs in my setup, but the actual process to alert, on screen, when the content does not match does work. The issue that I'm having is that Xymon isn't sending out the email alerts for that content check.
