undocumented option on logfetch

I see my CentOS client script ~/client/bin/xymonclient.sh includes a call to logfetch with "--clock". On my client, it spills three times, epoch/local/UTC This option is not documented on the logfetch.1.html page. Looking in source, --clock appears to be the only undocumented option. Is this lack of documentation by design or oversight? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. Where is the linux client name set?

It's been a couple of years since I've needed to configure a linux client (my Solaris systems are still running their old BB clients). And I'm confused with what I'm seeing. This is on a _very_ minimal server installation with client; compiled from source. I have files in ~/client/tmp/ of the form msg.xymonx.state.ak.us.txt (so fully-qualified host.domain name). Yet the first line of that file is: client xymonx.linux linux So the message body being sent to the xymon server contains the short host name. But the client is writing the file onto the disk with the fully-qualified name. The xymon server reports my client messages as 'ghosts', and correctly picks them up if I put a client alias in hosts.cfg client:xymonx I'd like to do away with that alias. Where is my linux client picking up this short name? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. xymongen - add static text to a page?

Is there a way to insert additional static text on a specific page generated by xymongen? I've found the the --pagetext-headings option for xymongen. This puts the page/sub-page description at the top of the page. That's not waht I need. What I'm after is kind of like the COMMENT option in hosts.cfg for hosts, but I want something for pages. > COMMENT:Host comment > Adds a small text after the hostname on the web page. The TITLE option in hosts.cfg also comes close, but agai, isn't right. -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. Not sure how you'd do this from a Xymon config stand point. But you could setup your web server config (e.g. httpd.conf) to control access to various Xymon pages. A lot of the fine detail is produced with scripts in the xymon-cgi directory. You could require authentication for anything with those links, or simply anything that ISN'T your front page. Erik D. ftp test with ":q" parameter

I concur with Brian. The most likely reason for the ":q" was an errant vi quit command. Looks like a ":s" would be valid. I'll refer you to the manpage for host.cfg ( http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man5/hosts.cfg.5.html) under the heading "Simple Network Tests". My reading of that suggests that you would use that configuration directive to tell Xymon not to send any of the test data defined for the service from the protocols.cfg file. I'll also point out, that the :21 isn't necessary either. This would only be necessary if you wanted to test a service that would be running on a non-standard port. The example given is ssh. Ordinarily, that runs on port 22, but if you wanted to perform an SSH test listening on port 8022, you would use "ssh:8022". The default port number is defined in protocols.cfg ( http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man5/protocols.cfg.5.html) . If a port number for a defined service is not found, it will use what is defined in /etc/services, if one can be found. Erik D. Xymon to monitor HP OpenVMS

Hi Xymon Team, I am a big fan of your monitoring system. I started to use hobbit since 2007 and now using xymon to watch my systems being manage. OpenVMS is one of the system that I need to monitor closely. At this time I was able to monitor hdd, connection , procs and cpu only. But as you can see below, the graph for cpu utilization is not displayed. I still need to add other system resources but im having difficulties to integrate it. I would like to seek for your expert assistance to fully monitor our OpenVMS system. Please advise if we can set a conference call to discuss. I found this in my hosts.cfg and can't figure out what I was trying do: 0.0.0.0 foo.bar.com # ftp:21:q I can't find any documentation for the :q parameter. I'm looking in source, but can't find now where those are parsed. What does/did this :q do? Anything? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. Hey everyone, I know there's a tag that I can include in status messages so xymon ignores all the text between the tag and /tag, so that the values don't get picked up by the NCV engine. But I can't find that tag anywhere. Can anyone remember what it is? Thanks!
