Hi, has anyone done DS checks in analysis.cfg that test multiple values from the same rrd file? We have data in ncv format that gets written to an rrd file and I want to be able to check expressions against multiple values at the same time, e.g. in logic, where A, B, C and D are all graphed in the same rrd file : If A + B / C > 33% go red But if C < 10 go green anyway (override the above calculation, as it would not be statistically reliable) And if D > 30 go green anyway The man page doesn't state how rules should be written: http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man5/analysis.cfg.5.html#l… I've tried to read the code: https://sourceforge.net/p/xymon/code/HEAD/tree/branches/4.3.29/xymond/clien… But I'm not a C programmer so that didn't help me. Hi I have committed v2.37 today, this has a big performance related fix and other fixes - thanks to SebA <spah at syntec.co.uk<mailto:spah at syntec.co.uk>> and Andy abs at shadymint.com<mailto:abs at shadymint.com> for extra work and prompting in this area. Download from SVN<https://sourceforge.net/p/xymon/code/HEAD/tree/sandbox/WinPSClient/> (the documentation has been updated also, including uninstall instructions). The key fixes are: * replaced WMI call to get number of processors with Windows API call The WMI call to get processor information was taking anything from 4-5 seconds on most of my VMs, some experience much longer waits and high CPU usage while this WMI call executed. There have also been instances where the WMI call returns incorrect data or no data. This has been replaced with a call to GetNativeSystemInfo(), which should work on 32-bit and 64-bit platforms and in testing executes in milliseconds. * only supply diskpart data if EnableDiskPart = 1 There is a test in the client which uses 'diskpart' to gather information about clustering every slow scan. This is included in the data sent to Xymon, but it's not generally displayed - you can extract it for reporting if needed. Hardly anyone uses this and for some reason for some people it is causing memory issues in the Microsoft Virtual Disk Service. Therefore by default the test will now not be run, you can enable it with the EnableDiskPart setting in xymonclient_config.xml. * add a dummy, ignored config item in the internal client-local config table so that there is always some configuration present (even if nothing in the server-side client-local for this host) We found that if there is no client-local.cfg for the host and no default client-local.cfg (like [powershell] or [XymonPS]), on some platforms there appears to be a memory leak. The fix ensures there is always something in the internal cache of client-config even if nothing is received from the server. * XymonAcceptUTF8 - default (0) is now to use the original ASCII encoding, added setting for 'pure' ASCII coding which strips/converts diacritic characters Prior to this version, by default, the client uses ASCII encoding to send to the server but also attempts to encode/filter diacritic characters. This was added in v2.20, and for some people it adds a large time overhead when sending data. It's been changed so that the default setting of 0 acts like it did before v2.20 - no diacritic encoding - I'm calling this 'original' ASCII encoding. XymonAcceptUTF8 = 1 is unchanged, uses UTF8. XymonAcceptUTF8 = 2 is the v2.20 setting, use ASCII and encode/filter diacritics - I'm calling this 'pure' ASCII encoding. I don't think this will impact on many people other than saving time/cpu for the default setting. hostname change on Xymon server

Hi, I have changed the name on my server hosting Xymon server, a Ubuntu 16.04. But Xymon server do seem to still use the old hostname: The old name was "mail1": - I get ghost report: "127.0.0.1 mail1 mail 0:38", I have shutdown Xymon client, to isolate that it is coming from the Xymon server. - the link in alert mails is "http://mail1/xymon-cgi...." - A "ps" is showing: "sh -c vmstat 300 2 1>/home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1.7997 2>&1; mv /home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1.7997 /home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1" Here is what I have done: - Used hostnamectl to change hostname, but have also being over /etc/hostname and hosts. - Changed the host in hosts.cfg in Xymon server. - Used the 'xymon 127.0.0.1 "rename OLDHOSTNAME NEWHOSTNAME"' - I have deleted the old make file and run make clean, and configured, build, and installed all over again. - I have search for mail1 string in Xymon folder, and found nothing. Updating ext scripts for use with Xymon WinPSClient

I've tried to run the winupd.vbs script with Xymon WinPSClient and it runs fine having added the following to client-local.cfg: external:slowscan:async:bb://winupd.vbs|SHA256|ab7fdf4a1cdb93d39eaad60748a9872ae9f224760a0ebb5ee4a79139865a0a9a But it is not getting reported to the server because it is getting written to root of C drive. I can see the script is looking for where to write the output to, but it's checking the Windows registry: Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Check to see If used with BBWin or Big Brother client and set extPath. extPath = oShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\BBWin\tmpPath") If extPath = "" Then extPath = oShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\BigBrother\bbnt\ExternalPath\") End If Xymon WinPSClient doesn't write these registry keys. I use the following for backwards compatibility / consistency in it's xymonclient_config.xml, but the script doesn't know that: <externaldatalocation>C:\BB\BBNT\Logs</externaldatalocation> How should this (and potentially other) scripts be altered to work with the WinPSClient? I guess adding the registry key value is one solution, but is there anything less dirty? Kind regards, SebA

Tiny suggestion: create download directory

I have a tiny little suggestion to the developers, at least of the RPM, create the download directory. The xymon-4.3.28-1.el7.x86_64 RPM does not create it and there is no official documentation about where to create it that I could find. Anyway, for the above RPM, creating it in the xymon user's home directory works (so it will be /usr/share/xymon/download ) and means that clients can download files from there using the bb://filename URL syntax. New server - using Terabithia RPMs - disk layout?

Hello, I have been given a new server to which to move our old Xymon service. The old service was all run out of one directory. With the RPM's I can see that things have split up a bit - for example into '/var/lib/xymon', '/usr/share/xymon', 'var/www/xymon' and so on. The new server has a (separate from the O/S) 30GB disk which I was going to create as a single partition and mount as one directory. However, I am unsure as to which directory is going to become most used (in terms of the number of files/directories). On the new server the '/var/www/xymon' directory has nothing in it, but according to our old server it contains the 'rep' and 'snap' subdirectories which contain the most data (5GB each). If both 'rep' and 'snap' can have most of their data deleted (which I think they can), then perhaps the partition should be assigned to '/var/lib/xymon' since (on the old server) it contains the 'hostdata' and 'histlogs' subdirectories, which in total are at just over 6GB at the moment. Any thoughts about this? Server - snap and rep directory contents

Hello, I am in the process of moving an old 4.3.12 (built from source) installation to a new server which will be running the 4.3.28 Terabithia RPMs. The old server has two very large directories - '/home/xymon/server/www/rep' and '/home/xymon/server/www/snap'. (The whole BB/xymon service was run out of the home directory.) Each directory is about 5GB in size. So I'm wondering if their contents need to be copied across to the new server? As far as I am aware we do not usually create actual reports of any sort. So is it generally okay to just delete the contents of both of these directories, perhaps keeping the past few months worth of reports? I see that the man page for 'reports.cgi' mentions about using a cron job to clean the directory (or unset the '--noclean' option if used). This is probably something we should look into for the new server. Should the same be done for the 'snap' directory too? how to remove XymonPSClient

Hi, I've been using the XymonPSClient for a while now successfully, but have never had a need to know how to uninstall it, until now. The installation is via command line. Is the uninstall done the same way? How do I remove this from my system? -- Kris Springer

Client uptime status is failing

You can check the Ghosts report. The client name needs to match either the main name in hosts.cfg or the CLIENTNAME tag in hosts.cfg. It may that they are reporting, but not matching a host and so being listed as a ghost instead.
