Now comes the twist in this. Rich and I are building a hobbit client for a NON-Linux platform, so whatever code that reads hobbit-clients.cfg and determines the rules, doesn't run on our platform. We have to figure out how to completely mimic the data flow to the server. So if a linux server has a hobbit-client.cfg that has a file entry for /var/log/special and we only care that the file exists, what does the client-data stream need to contain in the [file:/var/log/special] section that will signal a hobbit server to mark this as a Yellow condition? I am running on a z/VM 5.1 system and trying to deliver our data to a hobbit server in a client-data format that hobbit will read & process without backend changes. This is a locally configured client. I am working on the 'file', 'logfile' and 'messages' components of our system. I can get our system log and its status information to hobbit as well as file status information for other files. The unaltered, minimally configured hobbit server shows the msgs and files columns fine, IF there is good data. I am now trying to provide an error condition, where one of the monitored files does not exist. I found some syntax for this error condition by running logfetch on a SLES10 system with a special logfetch.cfg. When I mimic that same syntax in my z/VM client data file, Hobbit still shows the file as green but with 'No Data'. I would like the file to be marked Yellow in the hobbit files display. Must there be a file configuration record in the hobbit server before it will check for the error condition? Here is the piece from my client data file. Alternate pagesets and Alerting

I've setup alternate pagesets in bb-hosts and generate them. Is there a way to page using the alternate pagesets with the hobbit-alerts.cfg file. I see where you can do a PAGE=subpage, but what about pagesets. I've tried putting my pageset name in, but I don't get any pages. ossubpage win (In bb-hosts) hostname1 # ENV:win hostname2 # ENV:win (in hobbit-alerts.cfg) PAGE=win SERVICE=conn,disk,http MAIL jw at test.com REPEAT=20 COLOR=RED,YELLOW RECOVERED Any help would be appreciated. Update: Adjusted the /usr/libexec/hobbit issues by putting a sym link into the directory (directory existed, but client directory didn't). This did not fix the error. Ralph, I did check through the directory tree and it's got full ownership permissions through the client tree as you would expect. I just ran the bbcmd to see what the environment looked like, and I see it has /usr/libexec/hobbit/client for the bbhome and hobbit home. I bet I don't have those directories, though I know where they came from. I tried compiling the 4.2.0 client from the source, but was unable to get it to compile as it had floating point errors. I posted about this last week, as well as searching the archives. Is anyone else seeing this : shell-init: could not get current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory I'm seeing it on one of our RHEL 3 servers, the other two don't display this error, and I have no idea what directories they are looking for. I don't have any 'files' tests defined. The archives had one reference to this, but it was a Debian system and the solution was unclear to me. Bill Hart Burke Corporation

Hi all, Can someone tell me how to get the NTP test to work? I get an error when I try it saying something like " a suitable time server could not be found". I get the impression that I need to specify MY time server in some config file somewhere but I cannot find where that is. Any help appreciated. Kevin

iostat

Does anybody have an iostat utility that works with the hobbit client??....along with graphs? I have tried both bb-iostat.sh and iostat-bf.sh and neither seems to do much of anything. Maybe there are other requirements needed to get it to work? If anyone has info on how to set it up, I would appreciate it. kevin
