I setup bbtest-net with the --debug option and I see in the bbnetwork.log file the following: 2006-10-27 07:49:54 Got DNS result for host gogen01 : 172.17.1.246 2006-10-27 07:49:54 DNS lookup failed for netwvrdev - status Domain name not found (4) 2006-10-27 07:49:54 DNS lookup failed for tmpl - status Domain name not found (4) 2006-10-27 07:49:54 DNS lookup failed for gots02 - status Domain name not found (4) 2006-10-27 07:50:24 Got DNS result for host people3 : 172.17.1.243 All of the DNS 'Add...' messages and 'Got...' messages are issued with in 1 second (07:49:53-07:49:54) for all hosts, except for the one called people3 which comes back 30 seconds later. monitoring a port?

I know using bb-hosts there are tags to watch for ftp and other ports. Is there a syntax to monitor a specific port by port number? 10.1.1.1 host # hpjd:9100 Giving the above line as an example/question on monitoring a HP Jet Direct device at port 9100. Mike

Sending hobbit messages to BB

Hi guys, I've been trying to find info on this, but to no avail. Can Hobbit send messages to a BBPAGE host? I have an existing BB setup, and would like to retain the paging host if possible. I've been looking at bbproxy, but this seems to run instead of hobbitd to simply relay messages ?? Am I missing something here?? Any suggestions, or kicks in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. can't change testname from upper to lower case

Hello, I'm running hobbit 4.1.2 We had some externals scripts that were sending status with upper case. Now, it is sending lower case. The problem is that it is still displaying with upper case in the bb pages. Even if I delete the test, or its history, or if I try to rename like TESTNAME to testname, it still re appear in upper case. Is hobbit keeping somewhere in memory some traces of the testnames that doesn't exists anymore ? Is there a trick to rename a test from Upper case to lower case ? Strange non-green-page behaviour

OK, here's the situation - I have 3 Hobbit servers, one is running 4.1.2p1, the other two are running 4.2.0. Last night the 4.1.2 server crashed when the building maintenance folks did some power checks. Why the UPS wall sockets are connected the main light switch is anybody's guess... But I digress. When the server came back up, all the network services tried to start before the network adaptor was connected, which meant that NTP couldn't update the system clock properly. I reran the NTP startup script to get the clock set correctly. Hobbit appears normal, the checkout scripts are running from cron as normal (old BB stuff, long story), all reports are being delivered to all 3 servers as normal. The problem is that the event history is not being updated. Red and yellow reports cause machine names to appear in the table with the appropriate colored dots, but the event history shows No events received in the last 240 minutes The other two servers both show: 100 events received in the past 158 minutes and all 3 servers have received the same reports over the last 4 hours or so. The display seems to be updating fine, and the colored dot portion is tracking correctly to match the other two servers, there's just no event history. I've cycled Hobbit a number of times, with no change. Any ideas of where I could poke it to make it show history again?? I know the simple answer would be to upgrade to 4.2.0, but that's not really an option right now. Thanks, Ralph Mitchell

The link from the nkview man page has the link to the nkedit.cgi as /help/manpages/man1/hobbit-nkeedit.cgi.1.html It should actually be: /help/manpages/man1/hobbit-nkedit.cgi.1.html Also, the link for nkedit.cgi from /help/manpages is wrong. It has: /help/manpages/man1/hobbit-nkedit.cgi.8.html And the correct link is: /help/manpages/man1/hobbit-nkedit.cgi.1.html -Charles

Detailed information about the underlying test in a combo test

I wrote 2 tests: sql-jobs and sql-locks that monitors the status of my server svr1. These scripts sends job details to the hobbit display. (Clickable face icons) I combined these with the combotest option. svr1.sql = (svr1.sql\-locks && svr1.sql\-jobs) This works fine only I can not display the detailed information about the underlying test any more. (underlying test are non clickable diamonds) How can I combine these test that still creates buttons to see the details of the underlying tests. Best Regards, Bart

Disk test not working properly

I have an Intel SLES9 system running the Hobbit 4.2 client with the all-in-one patch applied. A filesystem went above the yellow threshhold and although I changed hobbit-clients.cfg to increase the yellow value, it still appears yellow and says that the threshhold is 90 (the default). iostat graph help

Hi. I sent this question a few days ago without response, so I thought I would try again. I have been trying to figure out how to add iostat graphs to the trends column, but I have had no luck. I was hoping someone already knows how to do this. I see that iostat already has a graph configuration ready to use, but I'm not sure how to generate the rrd file. Is there a way to graph iostat?
