"drop" not working with 4.2-RC-20060712?

Whenever I try to drop a test from a host it initially disappears but then it comes back with a yellow question mark symbol (?). The tests that I am dropping are external scripts that have been disabled on the clients. When I click on the question mark I get a page for the test, but without any information, and with a summary at the bottom that looks like this: "Status unchanged in 13349 days,9 hours, 8 minutes Status message received from " I'm using the normal command top drop the test, ie. ~/server/bin/bb 127.0.0.1 "drop HOSTNAME ftp" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a PRIVATE message. hobbit-server tests on dummy host?

I'm just pondering on if it's possible to move the tests relate to the hobbit-server to a dummy host on a different page. The problem is that the machine has so many test that I now have to scroll sideways on my laptop, which is annoying. The only tests that my hobbit-server box doesnt share with other machines are the hobbit-server related tests bbd, bbgen, bbtest and hobbitd, so I wish to put them on a "Hobbit"-dummy host under a "Surveylance" page. Is there a "clean" wy to do this? I started off by moving bbd in bbclients, but then I had to add "hobbit" to the 127.0.0.1 entry in /etc/hosts for the check to work out :) -- Kolbjørn Barmen UNINETT Driftsenter

Client debugging?

Hey all, I'm trying to add a client to hobbit using the hobbit client. I ran the configure client, make, and I started the client, but I'm not receiving the messages on the hobbit server. It appears all the processes are running correctly. How do I turn on debugging for the client so I can see if it's generating any goofy errors? [hobbit] Client debugging?

Check out the output of "uname -n", which is what the client claims it is against the server. I had that issue until I dug into the code and figured out that the node "Kramer" (client) was not matching the server entry of "Kramer.hmgc.mcw.edu". You can fix this by adding a CLIENT:hostname alias in your bb-hosts file. --------------------------------------------------------- Kent C. recommended version of rrdtool 1.2 for Hobbit 4.2

I'm thinking of upgrading my production Hobbit server to rrdtool 1.2 when Hobbit 4.2 is released. Is there a preferred version of rrdtool that I should use, or just grab the latest (1.2.15)? Also, has anyone had success with building the RPM on RHEL3 using the spec file provided with the tarball? THanks, Tom

Hi, I installed 4.1.2p1 <http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/> vi an rpm package this installed with sym links all over the place I notice that 4.2 installs all under one dir Two questions 1.) when is there an rpm due ? 2) If no rpm what is the upgrade process ? Any clues why 'Full HTML Log' is blank

Hi all Just been looking at our OLD hobbit server which has been sitting there for a while playing nice as a fallback in case our newer server decided to stop playing for any reason I can click on the history button and it will display the last 50 events for a host but when I clock on Full HTML log it just gives me the heder and column titles and no data. Our newer server works fine, and the historical data was copied from the OLD server to the NEW server Thought maybe number of open files or something like that but I thought that might have produced a nasty error instead of just showing nothing. Cannot see anything in the syslogs or the hobbit logs but have no debugging enabled. Anyone got any clues ? Its no biggie as its the fallback server but obviously it would be preferable if it did actually work. Cheers Allan

Hobbit 4.2 release candidate available

It's taken some time, but after a month of bug reports, debugging and last-minute enhancements there is now a release candidate of Hobbit 4.2 available on SourceForge. You can download it from SourceForge.net by following this link: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058&release_id=43… or browse Release Notes and ChangeLog by visiting this link: https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=431566 As far as I know, all bugs that were reported for the beta release have been resolved, with the exception of the hobbitping "flapping" for some hosts. This is still being investigated, but until that gets resolved I'd suggest that you use fping instead. Information about problems and fixes for the release candidate will appear on the RC release info page at http://www.hswn.dk/hobbitsw/betapatches/ Apart from the bug-fixes, some enhancements and new tools were added during the betatest: * Two new tools implement a "pull-style" collection of data from Hobbit clients - i.e. the Hobbit server contacts the clients, and pulls their data - as a supplement to the normal push-style data collection used by clients. This is typically used for hosts located in a DMZ network zone, which cannot make outbound connections to the Hobbit server. See the hobbitfetch(8) and msgcache(8) man-pages. * A new utility hobbit-hostgraphs.cgi(1) was added, allowing you to build graphs with data from multiple hosts. * The "Acknowledge Alert" utility has been enhanced, so you can acknowledge an alert without having to use the ack-code from an alert e-mail. This requires that you setup the bb-ack CGI to allow this, by adding the --no-pin option to CGI_ACK_OPTS in hobbitcgi.cfg. * The "Find host" utility was enhanced so that if all hosts found appear on the same page, it sends you directly to that page. * A new "Ghost clients" report was added, giving you quick access to the list of current ghost clients. * Alert scripts now receive a series of environment variables with the bb-hosts configuration items for the host. * For web tests, it is now possible for Hobbit to pretend being a specific browser, through a BROWSER tag in bb-hosts. * Workarounds for compile-time problems on HP-UX, and LDAP runtime library problems were added. * File checks can now be optional, i.e. they will only be performed if the file in question exists. BAD tag question

Greetings, We have a system that has a red CPU alarm every 10 minutes or so for a duration of about 5-6 minutes. Would it be possible to use the BAD tag within the BB hosts file to have the status propagate to bb2 only if it has been red for 10-15 minutes? I thought that I read a list message relating to this at some point, but I've been unable to locate anything. Client build fails on SCO_SV (i386)

Hi, at my company we have some old or unusual platforms, such as SCO_SV or Sinix. Here I'm trying to build the hobbit client out of 4.2-beta (snapshot 2006-07-04) on this kind of environment : SCO_SV 3.2 5.0.5 i386 GNU Make version 3.75, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath. GCC 2.95.1 and the native cc. The configure runs well, but when building with gcc I get : gcc -g -O -D_REENTRANT -Dgeneric -I. -I/usr2/local/hobbit/cvf/include -DCLIENTONLY=1 -I. -I../include -c errormsg.c -o errormsg.o errormsg.c: In function `redirect_cgilog': errormsg.c:159: `PATH_MAX' undeclared (first use in this function) errormsg.c:159: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once errormsg.c:159: for each function it appears in.) gmake[1]: *** [errormsg.o] Error 1 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr2/local/hobbit/cvf/lib' gmake: *** [lib-client] Error 2 and when building with cc I get : "/usr2/local/hobbit/cvf/include/../lib/misc.h", line 39: error: invalid type combination If I change the type from "long long" to "long", it then builds up to the exact same point as gcc.
