More info: this doesn't look like its exclusive to hobbitping. [hobbit] Problem with custom graphs

I had this happen, with me it was due to a cdrom being mounted at somepoint and monitored and the rrd was still in place and messing up the zoom. Hope this helps. trends and info columns

Info and Trends columns disappeared. Just applied the latest snapshot. Graphs show up on individual test pages. Appears to be working fine otherwise. hobbit-confreport.sh not working

Hobbit Monitor 4.2-alfa-20060423 sunos 5.9 geting Interal Server Errorr and apache log shows premature end of head. Ok 20060423 a bit old cann't update untill after Thurday because of a demo. But because of the demo I want to know if thereis a simple work around or fix. You need to read some MRTG docs to figure out what MRTG can do, and there is no reason to run MRTG on every machine you monitor. I'd get shot if I asked to run MRTG on all 10,000 or so servers I'm monitoring... Paul

I use MRTG and Hobbit to monitor routers and switches. My config basically is a follows: 1. bbmrtg.sh runs on a host that collects all of our bandwidth information. 2. bbmrtg.sh sends the information to Hobbit. 3. Hobbit displays it as a mrtg column similar to the way that it used to work in Big Brother. I have reconfigured bbmrtg.sh to work with the 14all.cgi application instead of the original configuration as 14all.cgi allowed me to display performance in a per-minute graph as opposed to the 5 minute graph that was originally displayed. The mrtg column shows a 6 hour bandwidth view and still alerts based on the pre-defined thresholds. If there is a particular host that I want to represent the bandwidth for then I just add that port to the bbmrtg.sh configuration file. If I could get Hobbit to display graphs on finer detail for bandwidth then I would likely move things off of the mrtg host that I am using now, but I just haven't given it a good look. The other main reason that I like bbmrtg.sh is that I don't have to mess with any of my mrtg configuration files. From what I have seen in other configurations I have to go into the mrtg files and edit them individually before Hobbit would recognize them. I could be wrong on this, but that is what I recall. I have left things this way as opposed to moving them into the trends section of Hobbit as I prefer to have 1 minute averages versus the 5 minute ones as it is a little easier to spot problem situations when there is greater granularity in the graph. Hi, here is the third part with the php pages. I don't say it before but in this file, you have a "glossary" which explains the different metrics and graphs. You have access to this document when you click on "Glossaire" on the pdf.php page. It's totally in french for now. If someone is interested by an english translation, I will see what can I do ! suggestion on command pathes in hobbitclient-$BBOSTYPE.sh

Hi, We compiled Hobbit on one reference client per OS and distributed the client installation from there (we use sunos, darwin, linux -rhel2, rhel3, rhel4, debian-) We then noticed than several clients did not find commands like "netstat" or "ifconfig". Depending on OS release the inherited PATH for the user running Hobbit can be different. We had to hack hobbitclient-{sunos|linux|darwin}.sh to put the full pathes to these commands. Now my suggestion: ------------------ Would it be possible to add the full path for all commands in hobbitclient-$BBOSTYPE.sh? Thanks Dominique UNIL - University of Lausanne

Ok, I've read the Hobbit + MRTG page. Now, question... I know I need to run mrtg on each machine that I'm monitoring BUT what I'm unsure of is how does Hobbit know about this data? IE do all the RRD files need to be copied over at some point to the display server? multiple network testers

Hi, Currently I find it difficult to solve the problem that I have with one Hobbit-Server (HS) that tests my entire network, but... there are some firewall setups that prevent me from testing the ssh- or oratns-specific stuff. I do have Another Host (let's say AH; now just running a Hobbit client) that can run the ssh and oratns test. Is it possbile to have this host, AH, test these specific ssh- and oratns-tests and put the result back to my one and only Hobbit server so it show up on one display? Thanks, Peter -------------------------------------------------------------- >From a previous post from Henrik: Setup an extra server to do half the network tests, and configure your bb-hosts file with "NET:net-a" and "NET:net-b" tags on the hosts. Then you set BBLOCATION="net-a" on one box, and "BBLOCATION=net-b" on the other. Then they'll only test those hosts where the NET:... setting matches.
