.default. tag question

Hi henrik, i'm starting using the .default. tag, works fine fro nobb2, TRENDS,.. but doesn't works for pagesets i've defined : 0.0.0.0 .default. # HOUSING:* nobb2 and my HOUSING pageset reports says i have 0 hosts.. can i use .default. for pagesets ? Olivier

hobbit slows down

Hi henrik, this problem happened twice in 1 week (those last thuesday at 3am to be precise). hobbitd just slows down dramaticly, causing bbtest's results transmition to take over 250s instead of 20s; the rrd files aren't being updated anymore and some requests to cgi's are saying event is not available.. notifications are being sent though and external scripts don't seem to be affected doing a stop/start of hobbit solved the problem right now. i don't have -debug on for hobbitd, and there isnt anything insteresting in log's files.. i've looked and haven't seen any cron or other jobs that could be launch at 3am, btw the cpu is pretty idle too (no rrd files are beeing updated..) any idea ? (i did a ps auxww before stopping if that could help..; i'm running redhat 3.0) Olivier

Suggestion for Procs ext script

Hey guys, Moving further forward on alot of our stuff one of the things we dont have is something that will monitor all the processes on the CPU tab. At the moment it only uses the standard bb client on that gives the load avg and thats it. Can someone suggest one that is easy to use and will run on RH 7-9 and Whitebox 3. I've looked at some on the deadcat.net site, cpu2, one of the top ones, but they either just report on what the cpu is, or I cannot get them to work. On a side note I THINK the new hobbit client lists the processes (looking at what comes up on the demo site but cant be 100%) so maybe I'll see if I can steal (errrm borrow :p) a line or two from there. Otherwise if anyone else has some other suggestions that have worked for them I'm all ears Thanks Allan

Hobbit Client "Issues"

Hello, After running the client overnight on an AIX server, and a Tru64 server, I've noticed a couple of things for each platform. AIX: The netstat graph is not populating on the server, but it appears that the client is sending the data across when you look at the "client data available". I tried to send examples, but it was rejected due to size :-) I'm getting "/hobbit/client/bin/hobbitclient-aix.sh[35]: top: not found." in the hobbitclient.log. Is there a way to check if a command exists before trying to run it? I know how to put top on, but I don't use it anymore (haven't in years), is there a way to "turn it off", or is it just easier to remove the top definition from the hobbitclient-aix.sh file? Tru64: I'm getting the following errors: /hobbit/client/bin/hobbitclient-osf1.sh: swapon: not found /hobbit/client/bin/hobbitclient-osf1.sh: netstat: not found /hobbit/client/bin/hobbitclient-osf1.sh: top: not found Swapon and netstat both exist on this server, but they are not being found. I figured I could add the path to the command in the hobbitclient-osf1.sh file, but I wanted to make sure this was the right way to do it. The .profile file the hobbit user didn't contain the right path for these files, but that was corrected, and we restarted the client, with the same effect. The noping issue

Hi all, We've got about 20 hosts on our network that we monitor and now and then the conn column gets greyed out and clicking to check the status produces the noping value as if we had set noping in the bb-hosts file. After searching through the archives I ran: ./bin/bbcmd --env=etc/hobbitserver.cfg bbtest-net --ping --debug and checked the files in tmp.. nothing in the fping-stderr.1058 file - the other file produced succeeded ping messages. Anyone know how to fix this annoying bug? Is it a timeout? Kind Regards, David Majchrzak

After trying and retrying my test scripts I seems to have made hobbit upset. I blew away all the directories. rm -rf /usr/home/lee/hobbit rm -rf /var/log/hobbit I then reinstalled from scratch. I run hobbit.sh on the clean install and now get the following in / var/log/hobbit/hobbitlaunch.log 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Loading hostnames 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Loading saved state 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Cannot access checkpoint file /usr/home/lee/ hobbit/server/tmp/hobbitd.chk for restore 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Setting up network listener on 0.0.0.0:1984 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Setting up signal handlers 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Setting up hobbitd channels 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Could not get sem: No space left on device 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Cannot setup status channel 2005-08-10 10:17:41 Task hobbitd terminated, status 1 Any ideas? client ext script example

Hi, Been trying to get a external script running with a hobbit client and a hobbit server. The script runs on the client and I just want it to take the data it gets from the script and create a new column on the server with the output in that alert. The script only needs to be run for this one application on the hobbit client, can't be run on the server. Does anyone have a short howto or a very simple client side script that they can post so I have a working model to tweak? Thanks, Lee

Lee, Here's how you do it. Put the script in the $HOBBITCLIENT/ext directory, make sure it is executable and owned by hobbit. Then, in the $HOBBITCLIENT/etc/clientlaunch.cfg file, add a stanza for your script, like so: [bb-iostat] ENVFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/hobbitclient.cfg CMD $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/ext/bb-iostat.sh LOGFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/bb-iostat.sh INTERVAL 5m Hope that helps, Al Jeffcoat -----Original Message----- From: Lee J. [hobbit] Problems starting snapshot install...

Bob, You didn't specify your OS, but I had the same problem on Solaris 8, with hobbitd failing during a shmat() call with return code 24 (EMFILE), which under IPC means "too many shared memory segments" rather than "too many files". I found out that Solaris (several versions) limits the number of shm segments a process can attach to by default to 6. Since hobbitd now needs 7 of them, you'll need to raise this system-wide limit by tuning the shmseg parameter in /etc/system, e.g. set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=7 The /etc/system file only gets read during a reboot. Related parameters are shmmin, shmmax, and shmmni. Hope this points in the right direction, even if you are not using Solaris. [hobbit] client msgs column

I know the msgs function of the hobbit client is not implemented or at least not fully implemented. I have installed the bb-msgs.sh as an external script along with what other files it needs to run. Regardless, it toggle between clear and green every 5 minutes. Is the server doing some processing on the msgs column over-writing my green status?
