Xymon Network Tests - Behaviour?

Hi, Could someone please explain the exact behaviour when a host becomes unreachable? As I understand it, it works as follows... - Xymon pings each host only once, - if a reply is not received within a specified time (1sec), 3 ping requests are sent out, - from one of these three additional pings if a reply is received, the host is not indicated as being unavailable and things continue normally. If a reply is not received from these three additional requests, the host is marked as unavailable and four pings requests sent out every minute until a response is received. - Why do hosts show unavailable for 40s, 45s for example? Are the times above not fixed and rather work dynamically? Second question is regarding hosts that are shutdown for maintenance, for example... Usually, these are set to 'until ok' and the host marked blue with no alerts. However Xymon still sends an arp request / ping to check when the host becomes available. Is it possible to disable a host in a way that avoids Xymon checking for the host at all? Thanks, Mario

Spec file for 4.3.4?

I tried to build 4.3.4 using the included spec file, and came up with a few errors: RPM build errors: File not found: /tmp/xymon-root/var/lib/xymon/www/menu/xymonmenu.css File not found: /tmp/xymon-root/etc/xymon/critical.cfg.bak File listed twice: /usr/lib/xymon/client/bin/clientupdate File listed twice: /usr/lib/xymon/client/bin/logfetch File listed twice: /usr/lib/xymon/client/ext Does anyone have a working specfile? Managing Xymon Server Data Disk Usage

I've been watching disk usage grow on a Xymon server for about the past six months, and this growth seems fairly steady and linear. The big directories are histlogs and hostdata. After digging into the documentation, I'm wondering what strategies Xymon admins prefer for managing disk usage. I've read through man pages for TRIMHISTORY and XYMOND_HISTORY, with its options.

I found the cause of this. Hi all, I am trying to get the ircbot provided by the hobbit-plugins package (version 20100527). My xymon version is 4.3.0~beta2.dfsg-6+squeeze1 I get the IRC script to run and it provides this output, and then hangs after the connecting line indefinitely (unless I cause it to get some sort of message it will log) 2011-08-22 20:28:23 Tried to down BOARDBUSY: Invalid argument 2011-08-22 20:28:35 Peer not up, flushing message queue Mon Aug 22 20:28:35 2011 Connecting to 10.194.138.102 To confirm it is not connectivity, I telneted as the hobbit user and even used IRSSI and was able to connect to the server with no problems. upgrading proxy/server to 4.3.4 from 4.2.3

I have a proxy server on a private network, which forwards to the main server, a devel server, and itself (server on port 1985). I ran the bbcmd .../build/Xymon-430.sh script then did a make install. It was having trouble with the client, but I found that the xymonclient.cfg had put in port 1985, and only its own ip address. I fixed that, and the primary and devel servers are pretty much happy with it. However, the server on the proxy will not update its web pages. I did update the httpd config file, that's not the issue. I found in /var/log/Xymon/bb-display.log, the following: 2011-08-18 11:01:19 xymond status-board not available, code 0 2011-08-18 11:01:19 Failed to load current Xymon status, aborting page-update And I can't find anything to explain it. Can someone help? The particulars are CentOS 5.6 inside VMWare. It worked flawlessly in 4.2.3. Any docs on how to write tests?

Looking for a way to write tests that check a URL, and return fail/pass depending on the content. I could easily use curl to do this, but I'm looking for information on how to integrate the curl command line into xymon as a test. So far as I can see, the bb-services file only accepts test definitions by port, but I may be missing something. Thanks in advance! -Bobby

Assistance with Custom NCV graph on 4.3.4

Hello - I recently added a few custom tests to my 4.3.4 installation and although the tests show up fine, the graphs are totally broken on the new tests... (All of the built in tests are working ok..).. In looking through the mailing list I was able to find several entries that said "try this" and "try that" however so far nothing has worked. (On a related note, the slab demo on the xymon site is experiencing similar issues..) Here is the information on the system.... xymond, xymongen and xymonnet statistics

Hi all, I have 4 Xymon servers in a new DataCenter. A primary and secondary display and a primary and secondary remote tests servers. I won't call them xymonnet servers because they're not. On my primary display server, all 4 servers are listed and I can see the xymond, xymongen and xymonnet statistics for the primary display server. How can I or is it even possible to have the other 3 servers send their xymon* statistics to the primary display?
