ascertaining the xymon server used

scenario:? multiple xymon clients across several environments and linux OS. An unrelated script (ir not xymon related) run as root user, however does need to ascertain the xymon server IP for various system checks. Is there any "easy" or "simple" manner than can be scripted to ascertain this?? Without some really convuluted logic checking various configuration files that appear to (environment , OS etc dependent) to be in various places ie not always ~xymon/client/etc/xymonclient.cfg, which may then use an include on eg /etc/sysconfig/xymon-client... thoughts? ian

Xymon send email using Mail command with -r problem.

Hi All, I had a Xymon server need send email with a special sender email address, because of mail server had limitation sender must be company email domain ( xxxx at abc.com) if I need send email to external email such as gmail or SMS service. I had added Xymon XXXX at abc.com in Sendmail genericstable but not working. Also, I had tried to rename the hostname from xymonserver.localdomain.com to xymonserver.abc.com it works, but we cannot change the hostname it will make the other problem. I can't use -r in Alert.cfg, for example : MAIL -r alex. at abc.com alexalex at extenalweb.com SERVICE=uptime,conn it will not send out and Xymon alert.log shows below error mail: option requires an argument -- r Usage: mail -eiIUdEFntBDNHRVv~ -T FILE -u USER -h hops -r address -s SUBJECT -a FILE -q FILE -f FILE -A ACCOUNT -b USERS -c USERS -S OPTION users so, I tried to change x=xymonserver.cfg but not working, I added -r in Mail="$MAILC -s" # For the xymond_alert module MAILC="mail" # Command used to send an e-mail with no subject MAIL="$MAILC -r -s" # Command used to send an e-mail with a subject may I know the setting of xymonserver.cfg to allow MAIL Command to use -r in Xymon alert.cfg? I installed xymon-4.3.28-1.fc20.x86_64 from terabithia.org, and all the hosts fail the conn test, e.g., Sun Jan 19 18:56:35 2020 conn NOT ok Service conn on shark is not OK : Host does not respond to ping Running "/usr/libexec/xymon/xymonnet --ping --no-update --debug <host>" from command line revealed an issue with folders: <date & timestamp> Cannot create file /usr/share/xymon/tmp/ping-stdout.2138.00 : No such file or directory <date & timestamp> Cannot create file /usr/share/xymon/tmp/ping-stderr.2138.00 : No such file or directory <date & timestamp> xymonping child could not create outputfiles in /usr/share/xymon/tmp <date & timestamp> Cannot open ping output file /usr/share/xymon/tmp/ping-stdout.2138.00 status+30 shark.conn clear  Sun Jan 19 18:38:55 2020 conn ok : System failure of the ping test Service conn on shark is OK Xymon system error &green I created a symbolic link from /usr/share/xymon to /var/lib/xymon/tmp/, and now the command line succeeds: status+30 shark.conn green  Sun Jan 19 19:01:57 2020 conn ok Service conn on shark is OK (up) &green 10.10.10.1 is alive (0.07 ms) but the Current Status (Main view) reports conn red. How to make link in alert message show hostname instead of "localhost"?

When my Xymon instance generated alert emails, the link at the bottom links like this: "See http://localhost/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=choicevoip&SERVICE=conn <http://localhost/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=choicevoip&SERVICE=conn>? Can anyone tell me how to have these links get generated to use the actual hostname instead of localhost? Thanks! Jeff

Hi all, I'm starting to work on a set of Xymon client extensions to monitor Amazon Web Services (AWS) resources. As my own use case is not very representative, could you let me know what is missing in this list ? -EC2 instances checks (only the infrastructure layer, as the OS can easily run genuine xymon client) -RDS instances -CloudWatch metrics/logs (most important, as it can be used as a central point) -CloudTrail events -S3 usage -IAM users/roles/policies (to ensure nothing changed) -CloudFormation (check stacks are not drifting from template) Feel free to tell me what service are missing, and explain the use case, the important things to check. This could be a long work, so do not expect to have something delivered before Q2.

hosts.cfg validity check

What's a simple way to programmatically confirm a hosts.cfg is syntactically valid? With apache web server, one can do apachectl -t to parse the config file without launching the daemon. What are my options with xymon? I see I can do xymond --hosts=hosts.cfg but that looks like it is going to launch the daemon It looks like xymonnet offers the --no-update flag, but doesn't let me explicitly specify a hosts.cfg I thought the xymoncfg utility would do it. But it seems to always end with exit-code == 0 regardless of what I feed it. I thought maybe I could use xymoncmd with an explicit hosts.cfg to call xymonnet, but it appears I'd need to create a whole new environment file rather than just passing in the name of a new hosts.cfg How can I confirm a hosts.cfg isn't going to crash my xymon instance before I feed it to my actual instance? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can.
