xymon 4.3.28 learned something new today! We have a xymon client - lets call it FRED. FRED has its IP changed and so hosts.cfg is updated with the new IP. BUT the xymon conn test continues to use the previous IP to ping against. It seems (my learning point!) that the conn test does NOT use the contents of hosts.cfg... but the dns resolution for the hostname (or at least primarily). Only when the DNS was updated did xymon then use the new IP for the conn test. Who knew? (Well, not me bit I expect all you probably did! LOL) didds

HI Ian, you can use the "testip" in hosts.cfg for that host to prevent the dns lookup. Or, if you want this as a general setting, add "--dns=ip" at the xymonnet section in tasks.cfg (no restart is needed). I'm trying to install xymon on 22 HP-UX servers like the one below. I receive RED on MEM column, after just getting a "NEW-ancient" client HP-UX server loaded into xymon: I also as noted below>> have the threshold set to 101 >Like so: MEMPHYS 100 101 in file = analysis.cfg (and xymon still shows RED) Can I : A. So, while hobbit keys on the physical (real) memory to determine the memory, it's keying on a computed value to do the differential. I've seen this under HPUX and linux on occasion for the memory tests for BB. file noexists doesn't work

Hey, Having a hell of a time with this. I need to alert when a file exists. According to the manpage I should be able to use the "noexist" test. However, this doesn't appear to work. I've tried several combinations and cases, Has anyone actually gotten this to work? In my client_local.cfg. I have a stanza similar to: [odamid00-prod-us] file:`ls /pbr/biconfig/940/Lev1/Web/Logs/SASServer*/heaps/*.hprof` and in analysis,cfig I have: HOST=%(odamid0).* FILE %/pbr/biconfig/940/Lev1/Web/Logs/SASServer*/heaps/*.hprof red noexist I've tried using upper case and reversing the order but I cannot get it to turn red when the file exists. It does, however, give me a green dot and show that it sees the file so I'm confident it's at least partly working. NB: I'm using the latest Terabithia RPM. =G= PS: the man page and the analysis.cfg file disagree on the order of [color] and [things to check] from other experience, the man page is what is correct. I think someone may have previously pointed this out.

Trying to install Xymon on Debian 9 and it is failing do to missing package librrd2-dev. This package is not available in the apt repository. The instructions that are available talk about installing on Debian 6 Squeeze. Are there update instructions anywhere?

alert e-mail scripts

Xymoners, I am running 4.3.28 xymon. I am working on a newer server that I want to use a custom script for the e-mail. I have a couple of old e-mail scripts that I used in the past. They are just simple scripts to test all your variables pass and it sends a mail. I use this to test and build the new script I want. Ok so nothing is working like it should. The sript will run from command line but when I run it from the alert.cfg file, it just puts "no mail" in the log. It is like it is trying to read mail and not send it. I have not gone back and looked to see if mail scripts work differently. I even searched the archive mail for some sample scripts.
